Hey guys!
Has any1 had issues with Creative Audio Center? After a few seconds after I started Creative Audio Center my laptop freezed (only when this program was open). I checked the audio driver and saw that it was updated in 2009-11, so I installed the latest Realtek HD Audio driver, but now Creative Audio Center won't start, it sas "There are no supported audio device available".
Any idea how to fix this? Maybe a link the the newest version? Also, is it possible to turn on the subwoofer without the Creative Audio Center?

Thanks!

yea that creative suite has known issues. conflicts especially with 'steam' from what i've read. i did not install when i reformatted and have been good.

are you sure the subwoofer doesn't run without it? you have me questioning whether or not i hear the subwoofer (g73 not in front of me). i am pretty sure it's on but now i'm like wtf.

I don't think so, there is a checkbox in Creative software to turn it on :( (same for EAX!)

hrmmm... if this really IS the case. that is horrible as I love BASS! :) i'll check my system out tonight and see if the subwoofer is pumping anything out.

maybe there is a solution besides the creative suite available.

is the Realtek HD Audio Manager in the control panel for the G73?

Yes it is.

I used it to get the best sound out of the sub on my N71.

this is my setup...since there is no 2.1 setting...I went with the 5.1 setting minus the rear speakers. then for environment I left at none, most of them make it sound like you are in a tin can, I have SRS on and the equalizer set to 'powerful' preset.

I get great sound from these speakers and subwoofer in the laptop.

I reinstalled the old Realtek driver and Creative software works again...and I checked, the subwoofer does not work until I enable it in the Creative Audio Center

also, i can't get the dolby 2.1 to work.. i either have to choose the main speakers or choose the subwoofer as my output device. not sure how i can do this without the creative software. anybody have any ideas? also, the creative software isn't available on the asus website from what i can tell.

Good question, I didn't find it either  I ended up installing it from the driver DVD :)

So far it only made my notebook crash if I opened STEAM (and either I had Creative software open OR I forgot to disable the subwoofer the same time)

So currently you CAN'T use the subwoofer and play a STEAM game the same time :(

Unfortunately we can't do this on the G73, here check out how Realtek HD Audio Manager looks like on the G73:

So in short, you NEED the Creative software to enable subwoofer+set sound effects (with EAX) ... oh whell I reinstalled the Creative software and I'm using it now without a problem since, I now know how to use it without getting my computer to freeze

Such a pain, is this something that will be fixed any time soon? Just seems like an issue that should have been dealt with already considering the number of people that use Steam.

i was hoping i wasn't the only one whose realtek screen looked like that (non subwoofer look). well ya with the audio driver and creative software from the driver disc... the subwoofer works. just sucks about steam.

unfortunately I don't have the driver disc and I already uninstalled the creative software since it kept freezing up my computer as soon as windows loaded. I had to go into safe mode to uninstall it now it works with no problems and no subwoofer.

thats odd, your realtek setups are different, but that may be why youhave the creative software, it covers what my realtek does add and adds the eax4.0. I do not have the creative sound software on my n71. which is surprising kinda since it is suppose to a multimedia powerhouse laptop, but the realtek software i have does the job and it sounds good.

So how does one install the creative drivers on the G73? I'm installing this from a fresh install of the Windows 7.

I tried uninstalling the realtek driver and installing the creative driver from the G73 driver CD, but it says "Setup is unable to detect a supported product product on your system." I tried installing the realtek driver from the driver CD and then installing the creative driver, but same error message. So how do you get it to install?

Well... I went back to using the plain-jane Realtek R2.47 driver without the creative labs stuff. It doesn't have the Bass Boost option, but audio does comes out the little "subwoofer" and the overall audio still sounds pretty good... Less-tinny probably due to the "subwoofer".

But c'mon, gimme a break! Asus labelled it as a subwoofer! That's just a small 2" speaker that's bigger than your normal tinny laptop speakers! Personally, I think it has to be at least 8" in size and have enough depth to throw some air to be considered a subwoofer. I've not opened it up to check, but it probably has a simple RC circuit to make a simple low-pass filter. All you need is one little resistor and one little capacitor and you block out the highs and pass in the lows to the speaker. If I want subwoofer, I'd probably plug it into my Logitech Z-5500 computer speakers. Now "that" has a real subwoofer! Enough to cause early laptop hard drive failure if I had one of those attached to the laptop. :)

Either way, though. The extra "subwoofer" speaker they added does make it sound better than having none at all.

^ does the above when installed uninstall the creative stuff?

still havent noticed the subwoofer bass though havent played games or blu ray yet

will watch a blu ray shortly to test it out

also reason why trying to get portal off of steam before the deal ends

so basically we just download that and then we run it it uninstalls it then we run it again to install?

Remember that it's not really a subwoofer, so don't expect the kind of boom you would see from a real one. But you can verify by trying something like winamp with some music that has a lot of bass. Use the equalizer to show off the bass, turn up the volume and feel a little bit of it by putting your fingers around the subwoofer. A stethoscope helps, too, if you don't notice it.

Seems like the creative software is hit or miss. Mine made my laptop freeze and the only way to get around it was to go into safe mode and uninstall all things creative.
