hi
i ve ordered an asus g73jh-a2 but lately i ve been reading a lot of problems about this laptop. i dont know if i should change it to sager 8690.
i live in Turkey and its gonna be hard to have any help for it since g73 models havent started to sell in my country yet. global warranty can fix some problem but distance will be a problem.
i ve read a lot of monitor problem and i m really afraid of having any smaller issues than it. i just wonder what you guys can suggest me about it? averagely how many people got problem with g73 model i dunno why but it just scares me. pls gimme some advice

This unit is less problematic than many would have you think. Global warranty is soo much better for you being in Turkey. The Sager is great but since you picked the G73 I would not change your order.
The Global protection in and of itself is a deal maker. If you get the Sager you have to pay shipping on repair?
No one here or at Xotic really knows the failure rate. Only Asus does. Xotic knows their failure rate at best. Do keep in mind you have these cowboys who update the BIOS/drivers before they even turn on. I think at least some level of failure is user aggravated/caused.
Sagers have issues. All high end cutting edge do have growing pains. On the G73 plus side the cooling system seems top notch. Heat is a major issue in failures and G73 does not seem to have heat issues.
Stick with the G73.

I have to say that I disagree. I won't say anything more than that. To the original poster: go look at the ASUS Forums for the G73 (http://vip.asus.com/forum/topic.aspx?board_id=3&model=G73JH&SLanguage=en-us)
figure out for yourself if anything on that board changes your mind or not.
For the record my 8690 has had 0 issues.

I guess I'm in between, I say go with whatever you feel comfortable with at the end of the day. Look at warranty for both if you are worried about any future issues. Speak with some of the people at Xotic if you can and ask them about the process for both, see which one might be easier.
I know some of the Sager owners have said they have had no problems with their 8690. Now there are fewer of those people around but I know they have said if you look around you will find only minor issues for the most part.
G73 on the other hand has some known issues although I think the failure rate has been blown out of proportion some as well. It is an extremely popular model that has sold quite well so a lot of people are getting them. Said it before and I'll say it again, a lot of people tend to jump on forums and talk when they have an issue. Yet for every one of those people you have a bunch who won't say a thing. Not an excuse but while we have had some come on here with problems that required an RMA, overall it seems like the vast majority of the owners are happy.
Both are great machines so you are getting something good either way. Also nothing is perfect so while the 8690 doesn't seem to have any issues, at least none that I have seen, that doesn't mean you won't receive a lemon either. I really think you should find out about the warranty process and the way it will work for you in Turkey for both machines and from there make a decision.

Let me address Mav 1st. I made a point of mentioning if that was what you picked first? You see I, as you know, know the G73 is stripped down in connectivity. As such I would never start a conversation thinking the G73 works for all. For some it just does not, and that is important for buyers to know. It certainly is not clearly stated? No FW or eSATA among other things. I gave OP credit for having gone through that maze. If OP has not then sure do it.
Mav my G73 has been fine for two weeks. Like your Sager. I would not argue with you that it looks like the G73 might have greater issues than the Sager's but most get fully functioning units like myself. Do you disagree that someone from a non US/Canadian location might have benefits going Asus? I agree do not buy crap for a warranty but I think the G73 offers more.
Just to make clear Mav if Sager was ordered 1st my response might be different. They are great machines. The only real reason I even went G73 was less money and more backlit keyboard. So I do understand the personal aspects.;)
Slow to you I must say the warranty has to be important to someone in Turkey.;):p
OP I do not have the answers, these other guys have points. I think the G73 issues are overplayed. I could be wrong. Mine is nothing but opinion so take as such. I would hang in there.;)

I would agree with this if the Sager warranty weren't handled through xoticpc. "3 Year Labor* 1 Year Parts Warranty Lifetime -24/7 DOMESTIC Based- Toll Free Telephone Tech Support (Labor Warranty through Xotic PC) Includes FREE Shipping Both Ways for Warranty Repairs"
So what I would do if the worry is RMA service is to find out how xoticpc handles international orders when it comes to the shipping. To me I read that as they pay for shipping both ways on the sager if it needs warranty service.

Sager will pay for UPS three-day shipping (or ground shipping for addresses near Los Angeles, CA) both ways for returned products for repair on all of their warranties on all Sager Branded Products. THIS APPLIES TO END USERS IN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ONLY (EXCLUDING PUERTO RICO, ALASKA, HAWAII, AND U.S. POSSESSIONS AND TERRITORIES)Well...
Though personally I prefer not having to go through warranty at all than worrying about who will pay the shipping when I need to RMA it.

first of all ty guys for replying. what if i buy sager instead of g73. i havent found any problem about that laptop yet but i can find a lot about g73 (parking processers, backlit keyboard, monitor problem)
the thing is here i got any problem with sager i cant send it back to the US its gonna cost way too much for me. ($100 for send +$100 for getting it back but TAXES around $300 :D when i want to recieve it back)
also sager is more expensive when i want to customize it like g73.
i love to have a laptop 15,6" fdd but that guarantee thing comes out there. i would definetely go for sager i was in US but since im not im just so confused right now.
the other question of mine is since no owner of sager had any issues like g73 if go for sager then can i add ram on it bymyself i want to? can i customize it?

Sager is well built with no glaring issues but I think you are putting so much stock in forum posts that you are forgetting that no matter how well built, there is always a chance something can go wrong. Based on what you are saying, should that happen then you are looking at possibly spending $500+ to send it off and get it repaired.
Is Asus going to be the same way with Global warranty?
If you have to pay for either to get repaired then the Sager might be the better bet because there are far less issues but you will be paying slightly more. If Asus pays shipping charges then get the G73 because while the chance of having an issue might be greater at least you know that should that happen, or in the future something goes wrong, you are covered and won't have to pay a bunch of money to get it serviced.
This is time to research actual warranties by calling/live chatting with Xotic because you have looked at the computers enough to know what they offer and any potential pitfalls.

you are so right.
i ve just called ASUS TEK. Turkey and they have told me that they are gonna repair it if there is any problem. and if they dont have the exact piece (motherboard / graphic card) they are gonna order it from the main department.
since im not going to pay any other charges (shipping/ duty tax)i ll go for g73. ty for replies
