Predictions?
I'm pulling for a Spain and Netherlands final. The favorites that have been tossed around around Brazil, England, Argentina, Spain... the usual "soccer" powerhouse nations. How well do you think USA will fair in the WC? I'm guessing they'll make it to the knockout round but lose out to Germany... if they can manage to beat Germany, the next round they'd probably end up playing Argentina and I don't see them beating them.... so... who do you think will do well in the WC? It starts this Friday. I'm anxious to watch the matches!
Also, who do you think will be the biggest disappointment (team and/or player)?
I think Portugal will inevitably be the biggest Cup disappointment and either C.Ronaldo (of Portugal) or Messi (who is actually my favorite player, of Argentina) will be a disappointment for their respective sides. Although I hope Messi can win it all and truly be considered one of the greatest players of all time on all levels of competition.

I'll pull for the USA first and Spain thereafter.
Can't say I watch soccer/football all that much or follow closely but I love the World Cup. Love or hate the sport, it's impressive to see the massive crowds and the energy displayed during the games.

That's my predictions.
These are clearly speculation on my half. This speculation is based off of what I know of the teams in general knowledge. I do not research each team, this is mostly based off of performances and players.
So
1st Argentina
2nd Brazil
3rd Spain

You can't say "U.K." mate :) U.K. = England + Wales + Northern Ireland + Scotland, but yeah, I know what you were referring to.
At this stage of the competition and how things are shaping up,
Group A: Uruguay and Mexico
Group B: Argentina and South Korea
Group C: USA and England
Group D: Germany and Serbia
Group E: Netherlands and Japan
Group F: Paraguay and Italy
Group G: Brazil and Ivory Coast
Group H: Chile and Spain
Quaterfinals:
South Korea v USA,
England v Argentina,
Netherlands v Brazil,
Japan v Ivory Coast
Semis:
Netherlands v USA,
England v Japan
Finals: Netherlands vs England
Winner: Still hard to say ... but I'm going for England :D
That's my prediction for now :)

Personally I'd like the US to win the World Cup for once because US defence is so underrated. But, Portugal should be watched now after that 7-0 thrashing of N. Korea since they've gained confidence and have gained momentum.

I completely agree. I just happened to wake up to see the last half of that game and I feel sorry for North Korea :eeek2:

Heh. Unless we see some more major upsets, it should be pretty close to that... Uruguay is looking pretty good. Portugal finally found the scoring touch, yea? lol Spain has more to prove... 49 shots, only 2 goals. Brazil plays a beautiful game, but also ugly when they start diving and feigning injury...only for the player to get back up and run into the play for the freekick. Argentina... could be their time to win it (for Messi, of course ;)

Have you seriously watched them play?? lol They play like a bunch of 10 year olds... although they should've won that game against Slovenia... poor call by the ref. We've seen many of those this WC.

USA... robbed of yet another goal. Dempsey was level with the defender. That's a good goal in any other game.

We are getting screwed by refs. Of course our slow starts haven't helped us.

heh. I know. ;)
Glad to see USA pull it off. It wasn't a pretty game, but USA did show good movement at times (very few and far between). Still need to work on our midfield movement and defending against the counter attack.
I wonder who it'll be in the next round (game is on Saturday at 2:30, ABC). It could be any of the four teams in Group D. Ghana could top the group if they can manage to win against Germany (fat chance). Australia could make it in if Ghana DO beat Germany. Serbia will probably advance with Germany topping the group though. Soooooo, that said, Serbia/USA on Saturday??
