I'm looking to add a new laptop to my home network. I'm very interested in the Asus G73 and the Sager 8760. Although the recent issues the the G73 have me a little worried. But one thing that kept me from buying an 8690 in the past, wound up buying a Velocity Micro Z30 instead, was the loud fan noise. During normal usage, surfing and watching video on you tube only not gaming, is the 8760 as loud as the 8690. I read a review from 09 on Notebookreview.com that mentions the loud fans. But someone today on Notebookreviews mentioned that they believe the newer version of this laptop has a new fan design and are much quieter. Is this true??? Thanks.

my 8690 is quiet by my standards. I am used to desktops with multiple 120MM fans though. Plus I have a lot of environment noise.
My 8760 is fairly quiet. For some strange reason, whenever I boot it up the fans start at a louder than average noise. But they quiet down pretty quickly. Even when I'm playing a hardware-intensive game, the fans don't go crazy, and the laptop stays pretty cool.
It's pretty important to have it on a level surface though. It gets considerably hotter when gaming if I have it on my lap. I guess this obstructs the heat exhaust ports too much.

Running Warcraft and Photoshop at the same time might bring on the fans. But my previous laptop sounded like a wind turbine all the time, the 8760 has yet to disturb me.
