Hi,

Im wondering if anyone has experience with the laptop cooler for sale in the Xotic accessories section. Is it any good? Does it fit a 17 inch laptop? I just ordered the sager NP9262 and want to make sure it will work well with it. Also, if anyone has experience with, like is it silent, are the fans adjustable, etc.

Thx!

For a 17 inch laptop cooler by ZALMAN you will need the 2000 model. Some people on the review site say they do not push much air. But if your laptop runs hot send it back. Or duct tape over the holes that do not line up with any vents or fans to concentrate what cooling air there is.

I have the Zalman NC-2000B for my 5793(also a 17"). It doesn't move much air no.... but if you hold your hand near the gap between the cooler and the computer you'll feel cool airflow. It isn't noisy at all in my opinion. This cooler fits the width of the computer perfectly and I like the angle that it sits at now.

I'm considering modding it and putting some more powerful fans in it. But I'm concerned that more powerful fans will overload the amperage capability of a USB circuit. I think 1 USB2.0 port can take 300 mA but I'd rather not wreck it up over something silly like airflow. In the end it's easier to just Fn+1 and go to high fan speed.

As for Canadian stuff, I got my cooler from DirectCanada.ca. They even through in $10 Next Day air shipping.

I use the Zantec Lapcool 4...two good fans, blows cold air INTO the laptop...my 9262 seems to fit okay!

I have looked at reviews on those beasts. They really push the limits of the USB supplied power. Some laptops report an overloaded USB power bus. The owners had to get a cheap USB power supply to make them work. However! They do cool quite well.

If you are in Canada, you can get the Zalman from NCIX.com I use it and seems to work well

I have the Rosewill, I use it with my 5793 and it works great. Fits perfectly and actually makes use of the keyboard much easier on the wrists. Very nice piece and I'm very happy with it.

Hi all,

So I went ahead and bought the Zalman 2000 from CanadaDirect.com, a sister company of NCIX. I was extremely dissapointed to discover that the user's manual/warranty and usb to usb cable required to power the machine, were not included in the box. I spent 2 days on and off tryign to contact CanadaDirect about the problem. They wouldnt answer their phone support lines (I called about 15 times, 5 mins of waiting each time), and I sent 2 emails through their support site. I then started doing research on CanadaDirect, and was shocked to discover they have had endless complaints about their support staff NEVER answering the phones or returning emails. It's been 5 days now, and nothing. I have a feeling I am basically screwed.

So I went to future shop to find a usb-to-usb cable to at least power the machine and see if it works. I cant even find that. All of their cables are usb to something else. So Im a bit stumped as to what to do.

I guess the point of this story is to warn any canadians using this forum to stay the hell away from CanadaDirect.Good luck. Ups just put my sager's on the van. I should get my new laptops in the nect couple of hours!

^^Cleosith,

I hope you are able to get in contact with them and get your problems resolved. It's always a good idea to do a little research on the company and view http://www.resellerratings.com for the companies rating before purchasing.

P.S. Do you mean CanadaDirect.com or directcanada.com?

Cleosith,
Sucks to hear that the cable was not included! especially seeing as your lappy is on the way. You won't be disappointed with the laptop you get, and you defiantly won't be disappointed with any costumer service through xoticpc!

I found a few leads for a new cable, they don't seem to expensive to replace. I can't vouge for their craftsmanship though seeing as I have not used any of them :/

I also have the ZALMAN NC2000, and am quite happy with it. It fits the NP9262 pretty well and also gives the lappy a nice slightly elevated angle for more comfy typing.

here issomething i meant to say a while bk but forgot to...as stupid as this might sound, it could happen:
make sure the cooler you purchase is a match for your pc meaning not the size but the way it functions. SOME coolers push or blow out air while others pull or suck in the air. i own one of each. my prior HP notebook i had blew the hot air out the BOTTOM of the notebook so i HAD to have a cooler that would PULL the air. my np9262 blows the hot air out the back and sucks in air through the bottom so a cooler that would push or blow out the air to force feed new air into the bottom. having the wrong type of cooler could probably quickly result in a heating orworse a damage issue. i know it seems like a bunch of gibberish but it makes sense. laterz....

I just ordered a NP9262 and was concerned about over heating issues when it came to gaming and long-term running. So my first thought was to buy a laptop cooler, and so the search began. I found many shapes sizes and materials. The only ones that appealed to me were the aluminum case coolers because of the heat transfer of the metal. But this still seems… inadequate to say the least. So that night after long review readings and endless product line-up searching, I stopped looking and turned off my computer and went to bed. As I stepped off my carpet in my office and onto the marble floor in my hallway I had this brilliant idea.
I remember at Cold-Stone creamery they use a slab of marble that is liquid cooled at the bottom of the slab, and I was wondering why I couldn’t use that as cooler instead of a fan in a flimsy plastic, or aluminum case. This obviously would only be for a desk or stationary position, but I only game at a large surface area because of how much room I need for my hand movement with the mouse. (getting off topic), so I wanted to ask anyone on this forum if they had any thoughts on this idea.
The most troublesome aspect of this idea is the heat transfer. I could set fans on top of the marble with some air space between the top of the marble and the bottom of the fan, but that would create a very thick cooler that would be impractical to use. I really don’t think just setting the laptop on the marble would work that well because of the plastic case acting as a insulation, but then again the marble would be very, very cold. Any help on this would be greatly valued, and hopefully this idea will lead me to a much more efficient manner of cooling a laptop. Plastic fans in a plastic case just don’t seem to be an ideal solution for me.

PS.
The design I have for cooling the marble is similar to how you would heat or cool tile or marble flooring in a house, this know as radiant cooling. I would simply place a looped system of small cooper pipes on the bottom of the marble that would have cool water running threw them, just like liquid cooling on a desktop. So my problem is not how to cool the marble but how to transfer that cold air into the laptop.

Cool.... just an idea, but maybe you could drill some holes in the slab and then place a fan directly beneath? The slab would most likely need to be raised in order to fit the fan underneath, but I would definitely like to see what you come up with (maybe even a new product to market? Patent time :p)

I like the hole in the marble idea a lot; the only thought that comes to mind is that the fans will not be drawling the cool air off the marble. Instead it will be pulling from the copper coils and only from a limited surface area. Besides those two points, it seems like it would work because the laptop would still be resting on the cold marble, and the added airflow from the fans would help.

Thank you a lot, I still would like to keep this open in case anyone else would have another idea, I will get started on this once my laptop comes. So until that time I will have plenty of time to take many design ideas. And I am really taking all ideas into consideration, so any thought on this is a big help, and appreciated.

And as far as making a product out of this is not my goal, I will load all pictures and design drafts on request and of course when I make a final design that works.

Well I actually meant that it would blow up through the holes ;), but I am curious what other people come up with.

I see what you mean and I like that idea. Cut a shallow hole in the bottom or top of the marble and set the fans flush inside of it and drill holes for the flow of air to pass threw. That would mean buying new toys for me to play with, and I always like playing with new toys.

There should be a sensors in the laptop placed on the CPU and GPU (dedicated) at lest. There should be packaged software that comes with the computer that will read the temps off your computers hardware. If you did not receive such software there are free third party software that will do the same thing.

Download CPU-Z and GPU-Z ;). The give temperature read outs of the GPU and CPU (Thus the names lol).

Ok, my laptop should be in production come the 11th, that means 7 days for build and testing. Then three day shipping that gives us until the 21st to come up with some ideas for a cooler. I need ideas people, ideas please.

Just FYI = That's 7 to 10 days for production and unless your having it express shipped to you its 3 to 7 days for shipping. Always assume maximum and let yourself be surprised if its minimum. There is no point in setting yourself up to stress out because something exceeded the minimum time by a day or two.
When your laptop ships you will receive an email with a tracking number. Just click on the tracking number and you'll be able to see the estimated time of arrival for your lappy.

Thank you Anewbus for the advice, I will have no impatience when it comes to waiting for this laptop. I was more or less guessing a reasonable time frame for the product. If it takes more or less time, it dose not matter to me. I was just simply trying to point out that there was still enough time for people to make suggestions.

Maybe you have some ideas for my problem.

I'm glad, your patience will be rewarded. (Mine is about to be rewarded around August 12th):D My lappy went into production around July 8 and was just shipped around Aug 5 or 6. Don't worry, a month is not the normal turn around. My lappy is very special and was having graphic arts done to signify that specialness. I instructed the good folks at Xotic to take all the time they need as well.

I am looking for a good cooler myself now. I wasn't going to get one because most of the time my lappy will be on a desk and I was thinking "as long as airflow is not obstructed or restricted, I should be fine". Now my second thoughts have gotten the better of me, so now I want a cooler. I don't know what the best one is though. I'm starting to research them and I well let everyone know if I find something great.

I was thinking someone could invent a laptop freezer pack. You know those cold packs you put in the freezer for use on your person or whatever. I was thinking if someone could invent one that fits underneath each type of laptop in a design that doesn't block any vents or fans, that would keep your lappy nice and chilled. The one problem I haven't worked out is condensation though. Oh well, I'm not an inventor and I don't have the facilities or capital to put up, even for R & D on that.

Well Anewbus your look for a laptop cool should be extensive. Like I said before in this post I have not found one that I thought was a suitable cooler for my new baby. That is why I am on this quest to make one of my own design and ingenuity. If you have read my older post you might have seen that I am looking for ideas to design and produce a laptop cool that will hopefully maintain a much lower operating temp. So if you have ideas that can contribute to this idea I will share all design and installation process at no charge at all. I just want something that can keep this heat beast at bay.
