anyone been following this? I got offered a free membership, now I just got to figure out the best way to get a wired connection to my desk, that has no phone jacks at all nearby to move the modem.
anyone use those powerline ethernet kits? are they worth it?
and would it be worth it to sign up for onlive, the games aren't free. it's an interesting concept.

Interesting concept that I have followed somewhat. The major thing that sucks about OnLive is you buy the games but if you cancel your membership you can no longer play those games. There are a few services starting up that offer the cloud computing model and it sounds like some of the others don't screw you out of your games if you cancel service.
I initially liked OnLive but that major issue really turned me off to them. That and I know way back they were talking about splitting everything into regions and there was a potential problem of MP and not being able to play people in other regions. Not sure if this is still the case.

yeah, the whole being screwed out of a game once you quit is a big negative, and the requirement of a wired connection, even if you have an high speed wireless connection, i can understand why, kinda of a hassle though when your house only has 3 phone jacks (piss poor planning on my part when we built it) and none are in the vicinity of my desk, and i am not seeting up shop in the bedroom or kitchen.
I still will sign up, i think for the one year and maybe just try out a game or 2.
they have 3 servers from the looks of it, and each server has a 1000 mile radius it serves, living in KY I am covered by the DC and dallas one, the other server is in cali, so those in alaska or hawaii get screwed. or canada.
I may just set up my old dell up on this in the bedroom to try, since its older and doesn't have the horsepower my N71 has.

I think it is a service that will appeal to some but they really should fix certain details. I myself lost interest when I bought the G73 since it is a faily powerful laptop and should be handle most games in high detail for the next year or two. Maybe when it starts becoming lower end then I will start looking at these new services. The pricing and stuff isn't bad for OnLive but the thing about losing access to games I bought turns me off entirely to them.
The servers just depends on everyones situation. A lot of people meet friends from all over the place and it sucks if you can't game with them since MP is such a huge part of games these days.
