I've seen this model has been added as pre-order on xoticpc, and it's specs are impressive. Anyone knows how good is its cooling system? Or if those led lights can be removed from the casing? Any benchmark, review or important info on the quality of MSI's GX660R is most appreciated.

It hasnt been released yet, so there is no information. It looks like they have upgraded their cooling from the pictures, but its hard to tell.

Geez, this is killing me!!! I kind of fell in love with the MSI ...Bu I want to play safe this time, not like my prior laptop experience with ASUS

Misel I have been thinking. Just after I bought my previous notebook I was looking at some MSI's that offered great specs great price. So I have not been above the MSI attraction.

The MSI you are looking at offers very good specs. On level with the higher end offerings. The speakers are one of it's cool points? I hope they are good but any notebook speaker is going to have serious limits but I like the effort. I hope it is good. It does look good. I like the lights I am surprised you are talking about removing. Why get vs a Sager? Some disabling of lights should be possible.

I am not seeing the cost advantage vs Sager I would think I would see. Also Asus has put two HDD's in a 15" and it had thermal issues. Sager does not put two HDD's in a 15". I almost think until Sager does might not be a good idea.

I think if you really like this MSI go for it. It will be a good system.

Thanks powerpack, my major concern here is temperature. And no more Asus or Nvidia for me...
@imsangha: I hope is just as amazing as it seems, good luck, I'm waiting for your news ;)

i got my GX660R today, so far i've had few problems with it.

the factory setting was causing the touchpad to malfunction in some degree, so i tweaked its sensitivity option a little bit at the control panel. Now it is perfectly fine.

Like it was mentioned somewhere else, the LED lights can be disabled.

I must say the sound quality of this baby is astonishing! It's crisp and clear, and it also provides a good amount of bass in the background.

Installed the most recent version of ATI driver(8/25/2010). No BSOD or whatsoever. "Wolfenstein" runs at a pretty decent framerate when everything maxed. Halflife2 also runs great with everything maxed + 4xAA.

I know people have been complaining about the screen, but I can't really feel anything different from my old macbook's screen. (except it's wider.) 1920x1080 is native for the desktop. The factory setting has the system font zoomed at 125%, but i reduced it back to 100%.

The keyboard layout is somewhat uncomfortable, but I'm sure I'll get used to it soon.

One more con: I can't figure out how to use the 4-in-1 card reader. I tried sticking in my memory stick, but it got stuck several times. I had to used a tweezer to pull it back out. The user's manual doesn't mention how to use it, so I'll have to contact MSI.

Its build quality is quiet high, so I'd definitely recommend it to someone else who's looking for a decent gaming laptop. Lemme know if you have any question. :)

* I posted some unboxing photos at Owner's Lounge, but it's not up yet.

Keep us posted. I am eager to hear more about this laptop. In particular the FFXIV benchmark scores. Cheers!

"Call of Duty : Modern Warfare", "Call of Duty : World at War" and Bioshock2 run very smoothly with everything maxed. However, while playing COD:MW, some textures were rendered in funky colors when the laptop was overheated after 8 hours of playing. It happened only once, and I resolved the problem easily by turning on the turbo fan for a few minutes.

I hear a strange "clicking" noise from the laptop body every 3 minutes or so. It isn't annoying, but I think people should be aware of it before making a purchase.

Sounds like a HDD issue. Run HDtune?

Is there anychance you can fun the FFXIV benchmark test with the standard overclock activated? (The "Turbo mode" button tde etcetc).
I'm curious on what it scores at 1080p.

Still waiting for mine. Can't wait to replace this laptop.

Sounds like a HDD issue. Run HDtune?Clicking says physical so yes HDD unless OP says more? The 3 minute consistency makes me wonder.;)

Hi,

Is there an esata/usb combo port on this notebook?

I love the spec, but i hate the outlook. it is not acceptable during business meeting :(

Any updates on the clicking noise?

The clicking sound is still there. I don't know what to do about it. (HDTune?)

iieeann: yes it has one E-sata connector. It also has 2xUsb2.0 and 2xUsb3.0 i believe.

This laptop looks moderate with all the orange lights off. You can disable them permanently with a few clicks using MSI LED manager application. Once disabled, they won't even blink once even during the bootup. Imo, I don't see any reason why you can't bring it to business meetings (with the lights disabled.) Unlike G73jh, it doesn't say anywhere "Gaming Laptop" on its lid.

G73 does not say "Gaming Laptop" anywhere on it's lid. It has a very subtle "ROG" emblem, texture only no color highlights. If anyone even noticed you have a closet friend.;):D

The lid design screams it hoss. Along with the rest of the laptop.
