Hi all, I purchased a 9262 and I love it. Every now and then, however, I'd run into this one problem and I was wondering if someone can help me out. I don't remember the exact error message since I am at work right now, but during game play my game would suddenly freeze for about 1 minute, then it is fine after that, but if I minimize the game or exit the game completely, I would see a triangular icon in system tray and the error message is something like "The display driver has stopped functioning properly but has recovered." How can I fix this problem? Thanks!

Try reinstalling the video drivers for your laptop.

I have a similiar problem. Installing the latest driver from Sager's site alleviated it, for the most part. It only happens for me when I come out of suspend mode. I'm running ForceWare 174.82 (I don't remember which version I initially ran), but reset Sager's factory settings back to nVidia's recommended defaults, and that seemed to at least make the problem workable. I went from, flicker/crackle/flicker/flicker/hiss/BSoD/hard reset to the "failed but recovered" msg. Make sure that when you reinstall your driver, to wipe the old one clean. I mean delete to nil, send to oblivion, get rid of it, or the new install has a good chance of becoming corrupted as well.

I attached a snippet of the error msg I receive, just for reference.

i use to get that message ALL the time on my old notebook when i played games that ate gpu ram. typically due to a low powered gpu, but it looks like you hv a good one so im not sure. try what OCG suggested and see what happens. cant hurt. thats my recommendation as well. laterz...

Now I'm getting slightly peeved w/the whole nVidia driver thing. I tried to install the new one on Sager's site (FW 174.90) and it bricked my display, YET AGAIN. Last time it did that (not because of a driver install there, but because of Vista's hibernation probs), I had to send the thing clear across the country to Sager and was without for almost 2 weeks. I'm really not a moron (most of the time), so I know how to uninstall/install a driver cleanly. After 3 hours or so, and 2 RAID repair/verifies (since I was forced to kill the power while the HDD indicator was on), I finally was able to force my way back into Windows to use Sys Restore, because Safe Mode was NOT working either. I shouldn't have to do this with a brand-new $4,500 lappy. *ugh* These 3 hours could have been better spent playing Crysis or GW.... heh

Anyhoo, here's my question. Is there another BIOS upgrade I don't know about, that needs to be done BEFORE trying to install FW 174.90? Last time, when I sent my lappy back (the same day I received my 2nd GPU...talk about bad timing), Sager installed it for me, and mentioned a BIOS upgrade, and also installed the drivers. I'm NOT going thru that again, although, I'm glad they fixed it. I can't stand the withdrawals. LOL

I have half a mind to back everything up over the network and start from scratch. Ah, hell, I'll just go back to XPSP2, if DX10 wasn't so darn pretty....

BTW, here's a key combo worth remembering: 'password' ENTER; listen for Windows startup sound; WINDOWS KEY.RIGHT ARROW.RIGHT ARROW.RIGHT ARROW.UP ARROW.UP ARROW.UP ARROW.ENTER.

That's to restart Windows when you can't see a thing. By default, Windows won't allow you to restart without logging on first. (I'm fixing to change that, tho lol)

Update: I started from scratch. Although, I still get the "device driver has stopped responding but recovered" msg after suspend, I now can run FW 174.90, and it seems to be performing a bit better. No more flash-flicker-crashed-but-recovered. The suspend issue I can live with (for now....)

hey i am getting the same issues too on my NP9262. when coming out of suspend mode the drivers crash then recover. however it also loses all reference to Nvlddlkm.sys file to start up the nvidia service again.

justin any help on this matter..??

I guess I have to amend my previous statement, because it only held true until installing SP1. Installing SP1 THIS time hosed my frame rates. I'm getting half of what I used to get in Crysis and Guild Wars. And I'm really wondering WHICH driver to use to get halfway decent performance with GOOD stability. FW174.90 isn't it. .82 isn't it either and the other one, .63? it sucked too. What is everybody running under SP1 in 64bit Vista Ulti?

ok i think i may have fixed my issue.. im running 175.16 with the modded inf.

i also installed a programme called readydriver 1.1 that disables the vista x64 whql driver signature on boot. and everytime i restart now the drivers are detected by vista x64

Hmmm. I think I'm gonna try that sans the proggy (in XP u can do that manually, so we should be able to in vista....maybe) if not i'll try with proggy.... I'm so sick of this whole driver issue. Just when I think I have something halfway solved, it proves me wrong *arrgh*

Here is a description of the problem and why manually turning off the check driver signature won't work on Windows Vista 64 SP1 any more. It seems even in Vista 32 bit there is some driver enforcement. But it seems 'ready driver plus 1.1' solves that problem nicely and permanently. I'll have to give it a try on or about the 20th.

LOL one day I will have to learn how to put these links in a smaller format. Just as soon as (a very long list starts here.)

There seems to be a way of manually disabling the driver checking but you have to go into the Windows boot menu every time you boot up.

I just updated my driver to 174.90 from the stock driver and my vantage 3dmark scores went down 200+:

Your system
3DMark Score

CPU Score
10902
Graphics Score
6086

I'm going in the wrong direction from a bad start. I'm a bit embarrassed to show these.

well i have recently reinstalled vista 64 bit with sp1, since that driver fiasco that i encountered previously (read my previous post in this thread).

she is running sweetly now with 175.75 modded drivers and bios overclocked grafix card. see my sig for specs and 3dmark score.

ztimbo i believe that score refers to 1 card only. 2 cards should garner you a score of at least 13500-13700 in 3dmark 06. check your sli is enabled. i have also heard that sometimes the actual cable is missing between the 2 cards inside the case. u might have to have a peek inside if your not getting the scores that i said.

SLI is enabled. If a cable in the laptop is not connected...well, I cant imagine a company shipping something like that.
Would SLI enable if that was the case?
I installed 175.75 but it was a disaster, I saw a mention of a modded driver, this is frightening to think that neither Sager or Xotic have been able to produce something workable after this much time without users modding the driver.

An expensive lesson on what not to do.

well it has happened to people they have sli enabled but with cable between the card missing. go read the sager forums at notebookreview.com i have the 175.75 with the modded inf drivers.

also install the latest dx9 api from the microsoft website because vista does not have the latest dx9.0c installed.

i hope that everytime that u change your drivers you are using drivesweeper in safemode to delete the registry settings before installing another driver.
