View Full Version : My Purchasing Experience

I ordered a "in stock" ASUS G73JW-A1 Monday morning at 9:43 AM CST. Since I did not see a similar thread when I searched the forum, I will relate my purchasing experiences with XOTICPC here.
As of Tuesday 8:55 AM CST there has been no charge to my credit/debit card for this purchase. Given that a credit card is supposed to make the first phase go faster, I was concerned last night when I noticed the card had not been charged. I attempted to use the live chat feature past 6:30 PM CST, nobody was on, so I sent a message.
At 8:33 CST I tried twice to call XOTICPC and speak to someone in sales to see when I could expect to see a charge on my credit card. After being on hold for ten minutes (or less, didn't time it) I was bumped to the "leave a message" message. I repeated this process and still no human being answered.
Nobody appears to be on the live chat feature when I checked at 8:45 this AM.
No judgement about this one way or the other, but this had been my experience up until now.

That's certainly unusual, I would try calling or chatting mid-late afternoon as I've always talked to someone at those times.

I checked the live chat feature at 10:36 AM CST this morning and someone was on. I was told that these purchases are processed the next business day, so I can expect to see the charge today. I also asked if I will receive the laptop before Friday and was told I will. I have next day delivery and will be out of town on Friday.
So far, so good.

Blame their lazy web guy!
It says they open at 8am, but when you get an email from them it's actually 9am.
Tsk tsk xotic.
Otherwise you should have a sweeeeet experience, mine came a week sooner than I had expected (and I had some issues that were my fault)

I am sure everything will be fine. ;)
I ordered a MSI GX660R-060 from them Wednesday last week, and I don't know when I can expect it to arrive to me. I have 2nd Day shipping method chosen. :D
I did also choose to have them make a recovery disc and put in IC Diamond, I wouldn't know how long it'd take them to do customization like that.
This is my first order from Xotic, and thanks to everyone here I do feel confident about my order from Xotic.

I received a phone call on my cel phone from XOTICPC at 1:22 PM CST to confirm my order (I have one upgrade - network card). Still no charge on my account yet, but my order is confirmed. I was asked if I wanted to spend $15 for recovery disks and I declined.
Not sure how they got my cel phone number, hehe. I assume I must have filled it out on some form during the ordering process. Good thing I recognized their phone number.
*Edit - I forgot the account form asks for billing phone and a phone number. I gave my cel number as phone number to call, so makes sense!

That makes me wonder if they have my correct phone number. (My PayPal has been bad about still having my old number.) :eeek2:

wow this is nice to see how xotic does with its clients. I hope you all will keep this tread updated on how things are going. I'm planing on shelling 2-3k in about 4-6 weeks on a nice sager. this will allow me to see how well they actually do on delivery. Thanks.

I contacted XOTICPC via live chat again this morning around 10:30 AM. I needed to make sure that whatever they do, do not ship this on Thursday because nobody will be able to accept it on Friday at my house. They confirmed that the computer will not ship until early next week, so all is well.
I will say that if speed of delivery is what you are looking for, there are better options out there than this company. The advantage is that XOTIC will do all sorts of custom things to the laptop, but there is time price to pay. In my case, if the laptop I wanted was available to the public right now, I would have probably ordered it through Amazon if it was in stock. I only got a network card upgrade. But since I have to wait anyhow, I thought I'd give this company a shot based on their notebookreview contributions and very high resellerratings.
Just expect to wait a week or so to get an XOTICPC laptop and you will be satisfied.

LOL...a week!?!?! I ordered a MSI GX660R with an upgraded network card, thermal paste (artic silver - which I love), and a third drive (that goes in a tray to replace the optical drive). My order went into phase 2 on 9/13, and they showed a wait of 3-7 business days. Well, I would expect 3-4 business days for these simple upgrades. Based on how long it is taking XoticPC to do the simplest upgrades, I will probably order from Newegg next time and do them myself. My laptop probably won't even ship until the middle of next week. I would be shocked if I get it before the week after next. Considering that I ordered it on 9/8...expect to wait three weeks if you change ANYTHING. Even the simplest upgrade will hold it up a lot.
Now, if the laptop is awesome and everything is done perfectly, then I will be ok with the wait. However, they have set themselves up for pretty high expectations. If I have to wait three weeks to get a laptop, it better not have any issues and the QA/upgrades better be perfect. If that is the case, I will gladly wait next time.
I will update you guys on what happens. I found this thread interesting.

You obviously don't understand how Xotic works and would be better served by going with a dell next time.
They do the upgrades and then they spend a couple days putting the laptop through hours of testing to ensure that it works flawlessly when it leaves their shop. If you are displeased with that pay for the rush testing like I did so you have your unit in 5 days like I did.
Please go somewhere else next time and then be that guy that posts back on the newegg reviews about how bad an item is while you sit there waiting on the MFG to deal with your issue because newegg doesn't.

I saw on Amazon that the g73jw is in stock for $1799 plus shipping. It would cost me $1849 to get it next day - around $25 less than I paid for my xoticpc g73jw with an upgraded network card. I still wouldn't have received it from Amazon until Tuesday, so the xoticpc g73jw is a slightly better deal. If you pay cash, then it is a much better deal (I didn't). So if I get my g73jw early next week, I will be happy.
However, I did see in notebookreview that GenTech is shipping these out much faster than xoticpc. I didn't order from them because they have a really barebones web presence, although they are very active in the notebookreview forums.

If they actually do test it as much as you say and it is perfect, the I am a happy camper. Newegg has always taken care of me above and beyond....don't smash them for things they aren't in control of. I have only gotten 2 bad products from them, and they have gone above and beyond to make sure I had a good experience.

Ok, Maverick. I am done with you. I HATE Dell, Gateway, and HP. They sell sh*t and their support is oversees.
I really dislike your contant disrespect and superior attitude. I surely hope you do not work for or represent XoticPC. If that is the case, I am concerned I did business here at all. There are other options (GenTechPC for one).
You don't know my experience in the IT field, and you surely don't know my technical experience. I am not a noob by a long shot...maybe you are a little overconfident in your own knowledge. I bow to your ablility to disrespect and frustrate people you don't even know. :notworthy
My point in the last e-mail was...don't bash newegg. Every build I make, I buy the majority of my components from newegg, and they are awesome.

Today is the magical day 7 of the quality control process. I must say that I do find it odd that it takes seven days to put in a new network card and test the installation, but I knew the time delay issues going into this, so not too concerned. Hopefully I will receive a change of status email today.

Yep...it is Day 9 for me. I used live chat, and they told me they lost a production person. So far the customer service is abysmal. Not even an e-mail explaining the delay. Nothing at all. Pretty amazing considering all the caims they make on their site about treating every customer as a lifetime customer.

I contacted xoticpc via live chat earlier today and was told that the laptop wouldn't be ready until "early next week". I decided that I really didn't want to wait, so I asked if shipping the laptop would be speeded up if I just dropped the upgrade. They told me it probably would ship on Monday if I did that, but I had to email xoticpc to make that happen. I emailed them around 11:30 AM to drop the wireless upgrade (and to refund it) if it will get my computer shipped by Monday. Well, it worked - in fact I received a shipping notification for the laptop and it will be here on Monday.
If I was getting a major set of upgrades I probably would have waited, but since it was just a wireless card upgrade, I think I can manage.

I understand many of you want a laptop ASAP. Please understand it is not about the complexity of the upgrade it is that we have other customers ahead of you in the production line. We build and test orders in the order of the date the order was approved. As I am sure most of you would appreciate and not want someone to jump ahead of you because they have easier upgrades to do on their order. As others have stated we have a rush production option available for those that are on a tight time line. I am sorry lead times are a slightly longer then normal, we are just finishing up on a busy back to school season.
Just in case some of you may not be aware, we test each and every laptop we customize for a minimum of 2-3 business days after the upgrades are done. I am sorry some of you feel a week or two is too long to wait for a custom built and tested laptop. We build every order in the order it was approved and test it to ensure its consistency and longevity.
john0997
09-24-2010, 06:35 PM
Hmm, I did not see a rush option when I ordered (or don't remember seeing it), so I must have missed this. I personally do not mind waiting. What I do mind is not being given accurate waiting times. I don't care if it is Dell, HP, or xoticpc, if the wait times are not accurate people are not going to be happy. With that being said, the only bad part of this experience was being told 3-7 days and then being told 5-10 days, but otherwise I have no complaints. Customer service worked with me and I received (or will receive on Monday) my product.
So my advice to xoticpc is to be more realistic around turnaround assessments. Otherwise I have no complaints. If I order from them again, I will call to get a sense about how long it will really take to get the computer though, hehe. But I will order from them again.

I received my g73jw-A1 today. Box was pretty beaten up on the outside, but the factory box looked ok on the inside. The backpack is actually pretty nice, especially since this laptop doesn't fit my McKlein USA "17-inch" bag. The laptop itself is much nicer looking in person than in the pictures. It has a nice rubberized finish that does not pick up fingerprints. Comes with a manual, a disk, a couple of coupons, the backpack, and a mouse that I haven't had time to look at yet. First thing I did was to do a Windows update and then got rid of the security software bloatware in favor of Microsoft Security Essentials.
I've been transfering files from my desktop via a network. Then I will create recovery disks (forgot my dvrs in my office). Once that is done, I'll finally be able to load some games.
Screen is very, very nice. Looks better than my 24 inch Dell. I haven't tried the VGA out yet, but was surprised that there was no dvi out. I may buy a new monitor that has a hdmi input to see if there is a big difference over the vga out.
The laptop is understated so unless there's a gamer who recognizes ROG in the board room, this is perfectly legit for a business office. That's one reason why the MSI and Alienware machines just were not appealing to me.

I don't officially work for XoticPC, but I believe it is as Justin stated. It's all about when your order is approved. So that means you would be ahead of anyone who came along and ordered after you, local or not.
International orders will seem longer due to the increased time it takes to travel and get through customs and all that stuff.:)
Don't worry, all customers are treated very well by the great staff at XoticPC and international customers are most welcome.

I agree with Anew. I do suspect payment conformation might add time to international orders vs domestic. Not because of Xotic but because of the greater complications vs domestic. I am certain once all the i's dotted and t's crossed it will ship as fast as others.
On a side note from the G73 fiasco. Your place in line is reserved/preserved payment only needs to be confirmed for shipping. So if back ordered you should have ample time.
Good luck.

Vertrucio
12-08-2010, 11:52 AM
Did you send a money order via mail?
Money orders are a bit like checks still, except that the one who issues them is usually an organization that is reliable. The problem is these money orders can, and will, be forged. Those forgers rely on that company's good name so people will accept the money order right away instead of waiting for it to clear. So that the forger gets his stuff, and the company taking the money order gets screwed when it is declined.
So, for big ticket items like laptops, there's enough money at stake for someone to bother to forge a money order, thus the need for companies that take them to be careful. I think the movie "Catch Me If You Can" is basically about a money order forger, albeit in older times, but you get the idea.
On the plus side, it still doesn't have the credit card fees, so you're still getting the cash discount.

Good evening everyone,
I think what needs to understood about doing upgrades is not that easy upgrades will take less time, which its true they do however there are people ahead of new orders that are produced first. Thankfully we are not slow enough to be able to put a laptop right into production the day that it is ordered. We complete customized orders in the order that they are received. When we tell someone what the lead time is on the build we do that because there is time that it takes for that computer to make its way through the queue, be customized, and tested. If a computer is ordered without customizations then just like newegg or anyone else who sells stock computers(uncustomized) it will be shipped as soon as the payment is processed and approved. This generally takes 24-48 hours, however we quote 1-3 business days in case we have to get creative with shipping and different state tax laws.
The whole idea behind getting a computer that is customized is getting it the way that you want it. We are glad to build it the way that you want it, but it takes time. Most current computers today require a complete dismantle of the computer to do simple upgrades like IC diamond, hard drives, CPU's etc. Customizing is starting to take longer than it used to which is adding to production times as well. Our goal is to get to the point where we are able to produce a laptop within 3-5 business days. We have been at this goal up until the busy season starting at the end of November. Trust me when I say we are taking the necessary steps to be able to hit that goal. For now someone who needs a customized computer quicker than the quoted lead time they can opt for our RUSH processing and build option with their salesperson.
I hope that helps explain why customizations take the time that they do. If anyone ever has a question about how a build is going or how long it will take to get a certain computer please feel free to contact our sales department.

deadbite,
Money orders are funky. As some others have mentioned they still have to clear a bank and there is an alarming amount of fraudulent money orders that are created. (plus we have had legit money orders bounce before) Periodically we contact the issuing bank asking for proof that the money order is cleared. Sometimes they are willing to give that information and sometimes they are not. We understand that it is frustrating as you pay all the money upfront to create the money order and then still have to wait as though you didnt. It is the only way we can be sure that we are not being taken advantage of by someone who is dishonest. Should the issuing bank not be able to give us clearing information for two weeks we contact our bank to find out if the check has come back as invalid, and if they tell us everything is good at that point we will approve the order and move you to production.
I hope that helps. By the way if you want you can use our secure payment method to move your order along. To do this you give a credit card(preferrably not a debit card) and we authorize the card for the the order total and start building/ship the computer as soon as the check is received. Once the check clears we will remove the authorization from the card.

Just wanted to say I had a great purchasing experience with Xoticpc. They took their time walking me through which laptop to get. Even when I changed my mind several times they were patient with me. When I got my new laptop it had a dead pixel. I was so frustrated I didn't even want to deal with repairs. But the manager at xoticpc made a call to Asus tech support and asked them to expedite my repairs. I sent my laptop in and had it back in no time, working perfectly - I will definitely buy from Xoticopc again - thanks!

I had recently purchased a $1,315 laptop from this site. Upon purchasing, they forwarded me their bank information in order to process a wire transfer. It has been a week and a half since my bank confirmed the transfer was completed, yet they have not updated my account to anything past Pending Payment. Furthermore, they have literally stopped responding to any of my emails. I would love to be able to call them and deal with this directly, however as I am deployed overseas, phones are not always readily accessible. I've tried every e-mail address offered, even those that I had received feedback from prior. They just stopped giving a s**t that I am out $1,315 and presumably waiting for me to stop bothering them about it. Absolutely worst experience of my life. Honestly, just waiting to return to the United States in order to seek legal action against them for theft.

I can assure you XoticPC is not in the business of stealing peoples money... Since you couldn't make a phone call, posting here in the forum was a good idea - I'm sure one of the staff will notice your post and try to help you out ASAP. My guess would be something was interrupted with the payment from point A to B, or that Xotic is working on your order and it just doesn't show yet.
Don't worry buddy XoticPC won't let you down!

Truth, Dry up there said it well. You should have no fear of Xotic, they are one of the finest companies I have ever done business with and I will continue to do business with them as long as I am in the market for their machines. Don't stress, they will come through.

I do not know about wire transfers per se. But I am certain that actual confirmation is not immediate. Xotic does wait until in their account, confirmed legit and can't be removed. Checks take weeks to clear. Yea your bank has to give you access to your funds in days but the real behind the back actually takes longer. That is why check fraud is a billion dollar a year business. Yes this is not check but same idea.
Some bank sent them a promise of funds. That doesn't mean squat until in hand. Short of in hand they can go oops? And take back. I am certain Xotic learned this a long time ago the hard way. And this is not about you in anyway.
But most important as the others said relax. You are in good hands Xotic is not ripping you off. As to not returning your email? I can't say, it would be nice if they did. But they may have thousands? I am certain they will contact you soon. And I am sorry to hear about this situation and confusion. The fact you can't just call is unfortunate but more than understandable. That should not be held against you, hang in there. I know if they see your post they will respond.
Out of curiosity which model did you order? I am thinking 8130? All will be good I been monitoring these boards for several years.

I've put in over $2,500, and they never worried me at all. Service was excellent when I got ahold of one of their reps.
They do work on a 9-5 schedule, you can't expect a small company like this to have 24 hour workers. Have you tried using the "Web chat" application on the Live Chat to deal with it?

I am sorry to hear of this and the problems you have encountered. We have no reason to not reply to any customers email. The last thing we want is for you to be upset with any part of your purchase. We are very good with email replies, I am sorry you have the understanding we have stopped replying to you. Please understand your last email was on 3/5 (Saturday) our office was closed. Today, the first business day after the weekend you will surely get a reply to this email. Outside of this email I show your last email to us was on 3/1 asking for a update on the wire, to which we replied to on 3/2 Did you not receive this order update email that is also documented on your account? Sometimes our emails get blocked/flagged as Spam and are routed to your junk email account.
I am sorry your wire was not received and I understand the frustration and stress it causes. Banks sometimes take longer then expected to route money to the proper destination. We check for Bank Wire's on a daily basis and update customers as soon as they are received. I would expect after the weekend you will get an update on the wire transfer.
Please feel free to PM me direct if I can help with anything on your order. We want every customers order to go as smoothly as possible. Obviously sometimes banks interfere with this and we have to await their transfers through banks.

If this was the worst experience of your life, then you must have a pretty uneventful life. People are so impatient it makes me laugh. They expect everything NOW, as if Xotic is sitting around waiting for Joe Schmoe's order to come through and boom, it is in production hours later. Business does not work that way. It costs these companies money to carry inventory, and even more money when it does not sell. Not to mention that they have hundreds of other orders to fill before yours. Plenty of other people have been waiting months for their merchandise, but you do not see them flaming Xotic for it. If you need a computer that fast, go to Best Buy and buy a stock model and then return it when it doesn't meet your performance expectations.
Give Xotic a reasonable chance to respond and I am positive they will.

For me...so far, so good. Everyone at Xotic I have talked with has been very nice and helpful. As I read through these forums I see the same thing.
