Hi everyone,
I just bought this laptop yesterday and upgraded to the dual 500GB Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid hard drives. I'm wondering since each hard drive has 4GB of SSD flash (used for read only), when configured in RAID-0 will Windows/Seagate treat this as a single 4GB or 8GB read cache?
Will there really be a large performance difference between my dual 500GB hybrid drives in RAID-0 vs swapping one of those with a 128GB Crucial C300 OS/Application drive in a non RAID setup?
Price difference is the upgrades is:
2 X 500GB Seagate XT (w/ 4GB SSD Memory) 7200RPM NCQ Hybrid 32MB
$134 * 2 = $268 (Total Cost)
$268 / 1000 GB = .27c per GB
Combo SSD (OS and Application) / Hybrid (datastorage)
128GB Crucial C300 Solid State Drive AND
500GB (w/ 4GB SSD Memory) Seagate XT 7200RPM NCQ Hybrid 32MB
$298 (Crucial) + 134 (Seagate) = $432 (Total Cost)
$432 / 628GB (useable combined space) = $.68c per GB
$432 (SSD / Hybrid) - $268 (2 x Hybrids) = $164 price difference
I'm trying to decide if its worth it to pay an extra $164 to lose out on 372GB of potential space. Anybody have any suggestions?

I decided to bite the bullet, just emailed Sales@Xotic asking to upgrade the primary hard drive to the 128GB Crucial C300 based on numerous positive reviews. I will keep the 500GB Seagate Hybrid as a data store.
Now...with a SSD primary and a HDD as a secondary, would there be any benefit in having them configured in RAID?

Your math is wrong..... Raid-0 is 1TB of space not 500.

Ahh you're right! I remembered RAID-0 treated them as one drive, but I forgot the space was combined.
Anyways, I decided to say eff it, and am upgrading to the 128GB Crucial C300 as a primary. I think this machine is going to be SICK!

Everyones storage needs are different. For me 500GB+128GB is more than enough.

I configured mine with the 128 C300 and left the standard second hard drive for storage. Works beautifully, I love it. Make a post in the GX660 owners thread once you get it, let us know your impressions.

can someone answer his above question? will running Seagate XT 7200RPM NCQ Hybrid drives on raid 0 give you a performance boost and treat it as 8gb ssd memory instead of 4 gb? im about to make the plunge on a new sager and would like to know if there is a performance increase running them in raid 0. oh and ssd's are not an option cuz i need the storage but i do play games therefore the hybrid drives.

If you run dual Hybrid drives windows will not treat it as 8GB of Shared SSD memory, which is why I went with the 128GB SSD with the 500GB Hybrid as a secondary drive. Performace is excellent! Boot and load times are great also!
