Is there any chance of the Sager 8690 coming out with a 5870M any time soon?

For some reason Xotic is only offering the 460 at this time. I know you could get 5870 in the past but not listed now.
I guess call Xotic.

This is strange, I'm looking at the sager website and under the specs for the 8690 it lists the 5870 as one of the video card options. When you go to customize it, only the 460M is listed.
Edit: I called sager and they said that they discontinued the NP8690 + 5870 option. Now, you can only get the 460M. I asked why and they said it's because the 5870 is old...

LOL wow way to go sager, forcing people to get Nvidia with a lower performing GPU is not a great way to go.

This might just mean that AMD (formerly ATI) will be launching a new line of chips soon... ;)

even if that were true they only had the 5870 in their laptop line for like 9 months if that? where as I think the GTX260/285 were in the laptop lines for Nvidia for like 12-18 months.

I think its funny that Sager called the 5870 old...obviously its far from that. However they do have to remain competitive with what everyone else is doing. I do think that they should continue to offer both, but if Clevo no longer makes the 5870 boards then they are kind of stuck.

There really wasnt anything that was being released that was better at the time. God knows they didnt want to put the 4870 in any of their machines. Until the 5870 they just didnt have many options.

I stopped trying to over figure the "whys" of what is done. It is clear it relates to price points and market placement. Look at Asus with many great mid level systems but low resolution screens. Seems clear to me they are trying to steer those who want FHD or HD+ to higher end systems.
Anyway it is what it is. Last I looked 5870 still an option on NP8760?
