Retailer Micro Center is laying claim to the world's first brick-and-mortar branded SannForce solid state drive (SSD), which is actually the company's second generation SSD. But unlike Micro Center's first batch, these latest drives come built around the venerable SandForce SF-1200 controller. And as far as SSDs go, pricing isn't all that bad either -- the 64GB drive sells for an introductory price of $99.99 Stocking stuffer, anyone?

All 23 Micro Center locations carry the new drive, though don't fret if you don't happen to live near one -- this one's available through Micro Center's online catalog as well, and for the same price. In exchange for spending a C-note, you get a 64GB SSD capable of read and write speeds up to 250MB/s, making this one of the better deals around.

powerpack, thanks for clicking the REPUTATION button.

Smog this does put the SSD's in reach of many more of us. I am not going to complain this is only 64GB as it is what it is and seems like a big step up in affordability. I will watch and see if it is as good as it looks.

But nice post.

I am still waiting until they are down to about .75 cents per gigabyte so that hopefully I can afford to put a 250GB SSD in this G73.

If you don't think this is a great price just look a prices per gb of USB flash drives.

Once the next generation of SSDs with SATA III support hits the shelves the SATA II SSDs should drop even further.

Get the increased performance today or wait....it's a tough choice for many.

I am waiting for exactly that, the SATA III drives to hit because then there will be a huge price drop on the SATA II drives.
