I need to pull the trigger in the next 48 hours on my laptop purchase. I've pretty much decided on this machine as I need a fast desktop replacement, not a mobile machine.

Does anyone know what the form factor for the HD bays is? 2.5 or 1.8 inch? I need an SSD for boot drive, but I noticed that the Intel X25-M is about $225 for an 80GB model, and right now Newegg.com has the new 120GB Intel SSD which is not only larger but also about 50% faster on writes for $240.

If the HD bay is for 2.5 drives, then I'll just order the machine with the 500GB HDD and order the SSD separately and set it up at home.

Thanks in advance,

Those machines actually use the standard laptop hard drives, so it is a form factor of 2.5 inch.

Let me know if you have any other questions via email!

Awesome, thanks!

And yes, one other question. If I order an NP7280 with 950 CPU, single 460 GPU, AS5 thermal compound, standard CD/DVD and the 500GB HD, what is the build time right now?

If I were to order tomorrow, 11/17/2010, what would the probable ship date be?

Generally its anywhere from 3-7 business days for build time 1-2 business days for verification and shipping is whatever you happen to be so I would say as early as Tuesday the 23rd.

For me when I ordered my sager np8690 I ordered on a Saturday oct 30th received a verification call on the 1st or 2nd can't remember exactly and it shipped on Friday nov 5th and I received it on nov 8th

Excellent! Thank you for the reply. I'm ordering on Wed.

I'm excited about this machine. I have a back that was broken in a bunch of places in an accident and have had several surgeries. Some days I can't work at my home office desk--bad days I'm stuck in bed. I have a nice bed-desk setup.

My problem is that my old laptop can't handle HD editing in Sony Vegas, and struggles with 20 megapixel raw images in Photoshop. So I'm really excited about a REAL desktop replacement.

Of course, I WISH I could afford the hexa-core CPU, and wow, the 480 GPU would be awesome...but I'm thrilled with even the 'low end' build of this machine.:)
