Good afternoon everyone! I wanted to post some initial benchmarks and some of my impressions before I completed our video review on this model. My initial feeling is compared to my G73JW the touchpad sensitivity and quality has improved. The computer looks identical and for the most part performs pretty darn close to a JW. The temps are really good. I did notice that the CPU temps were a bit lower than the average on the JW model, but the GPU temps remained about the same. Its still fantastic. I included both runs of Wprime so you could compare it to runs of the 740QM and it seems to be about 12-15% better in the 32M runs. From what I remember its pretty close in the 1024M runs, but I couldnt find our benchmark of the 1024M to compare it to so I am going by memory here.
The computer oddly enough comes with a nice looking paper manual instead of an e-manual. Which honestly I would prefer recovery discs and have the manual be electronic, but oh well. The laptop is preloaded with the Asus modified Nvidia 261.14 driver which has all of the fixes for FF online and Fallout New Vegas(although this game is still buggy no matter the driver)
Overall performance should be a bit better than the JW model, but honestly not by that much or really enough to push me over to get one. If you wanted to upgrade the processor and you were doing really CPU intensive tasks then I could see the point. For right now though I would take advantage of the good deals on the G73jw-a1(rebate) and XR1(lower price). For someone who wants to be on the cutting edge then no doubt you will be happy.
If you want to see anything else run on it today I would be glad to do it for you, just provide links to the programs you want run.
