Just to post some self-diagnostic success. I had my first bout of mid-game shutdowns without the overheating bell alarm.
I opened up the case and saw a lot of dust had collected at the interface between the fan housing and the copper fins of the heat sinks.
Afterwards the sound of my fans made it obvious that I was putting up with the fans running at medium speed all the time.
If you don't keep your Sager in very very clean condition you probably want to clean out your dust bunnies every few months. Be careful with the screws and follow the usual A+ computer maintenance procedures. ;)
