Click on your Internet connection icon down by they clock and click on Open Network and Sharing Center.
Then click on Choose homegroup and sharing options
Then click on Create a homegroup
Select what you want to share
Next
Copy the generated number
Enter that number in homegroup setup on all other computer you want to share with that are part of your home network

except I don't think that he/she has a network already setup via a router, switch, or a hub. Which means you need an adhoc netowork. Hard to tell though.

Hmmmmm, that would surely change the setup simplicity.

I guess Symantec PCanywhere software will work also or one of the free alternatives.

yea you could use something like teamviewer. Still relying on having an internet connection that way though and however fast the connection is. I'd think adhoc might be faster in the cases of newer laptops with 300 Mbps direct connections wifi or 1 Gbps wired.

what ever happened to just using a crossover cable and setting static IPs?
