Hello all, first post here.
Noticed that even with the newest G series configurations, the 460m is still being used.
Just wondering if XoticPC would be offering a more powerful GPU for the G series in the future, such as the new 500 series ... or are there heat/power/size issues that prevent that?
Thanks!

I think this has more to do with ASUS than Xotic, I believe ASUS uses some sort of chip that is not capable of being upgraded (don't remember what it is called) so as far as I know it is what it is. That being said, the 460M is no slouch, and can handle a decent amount of gaming extremism. The SW is an amazing machine and could not be happier with it.

"extremism"? That's a new one. ;)
The 500 series GPUs require much more power and are a bit larger as well. They will release more 500 series in laptops, just need to work on the requirements.

The mobile nVidia 500 series that have been released so far are GT versions.
The GT540 for all intent and purpose is a rebadged GT435 and the GT550 is a rebadged GT445.
Not GPUs that would likely be put into notebooks labeled "Gaming".
There most likely will be 500 series GTX M GPUs in the future. When????

The "GT" versions are lower class, and require much less power and space, that's the only reason they have the 500 series GT's already out.
GTX are the ultimate, the "extremism" GPU brand....
And yes, I made sure to use that word again. ;)

Thank you for the quick replies! I've been eyeing the G series for a month now. Just wondering if it would be worth waiting for updated hardware or not.
Very helpful guys.

Well I can tell you from experience the waiting game is not one that is winnable. There is always something on the horizon and there is never any true end. I am not attempting to tell you not to wait, by all means if you want to wait for a new GPU go for it, but as of now I do not know about any release dates for it. As I said though, the 460 is no slouch :) sure I wish it was a 485 but I also do not want to pay the extra $300+ for it. So.... I wish you luck in your decision :)

I'm curious... 460M to 485M... is it really worth the $300.
Clocks? Memory? Quality of build? Overclock capable? Temps? etc.
I didn't really think about upgrading to the 485 til you just mentioned it. Lol. Thanks Keeper... :P

I think "worth" is relative and for you and I Achero, not a reality since we have no upgrade path to that GPU anyway. I was more referring to the 485 in the Sager and the fact that instead of $1800 for this sexy SW, JH, or JW machine I will be spending $2200 for the Sager. So to me, it is not worth the extra $ or change into the Sager brand especially after receiving my SW.

Yeah, that's a good point.
Didn't look at it that way.
But I am definitely happy with my JW. Btw, going to update my 460M to the 266.43 drivers from the laptopvideo2go.com... I'll let you know if they are worth getting for yours. (if you don't have them already, that is)

Oh sweet, yeah let me know haha, I was thinking about updating but kinda hesitant while I am on the road and only have this machine to play on with no backup. But if all goes well for you I will make the switch as well.

I'm on the road too, actually. I've been at work in northern Iraq for the past... uh.. 2-3 weeks. :P
I'd be screwed if I did anything to damage the laptop too much. Gladly, I'm really cautious.

Very wise. Your absolutely right ... the "waiting game" could be never ending and there's always the money factor. Thanks again.
