Just ordered the NP8150-S1 today and was notified of backorder status. Checked the Sager website and ETA is listed as end of January. I was wondering if anybody has a more helpful timeline on product availability? Hopefully won't be delayed too far into February.

I ordered mine January 24 and I was not notified of a backorder status. I'm sure I'll have to wait just as long as you do to receive my laptop.

I was just notified that I did not make the list of orders that are about to be shipped out which is expected since I just ordered mine. So I'm pretty much looking at the third or fourth week of February to receive mine. I'm fine with that since my machine will be throughly checked. Plus I'm getting my laptop skinned so that gives them enough time to get done right.

I order the 8150 and it said they are on backorder and I asked them when they are expecting to get more. This was the reply I received
"Thank you for your email. We cannot guarantee a delivery date for your order at this time. The upcoming Sager shipment is expected the second week of February." So if it comes in the second week of February I'd give a week for them to build/modify and a week for delivery. My estimate is sometime in late Feb or early March.

If it helps, production times with Sager units usually runs around 3-7 business days. The new NP8130/8150/8170 units have been extremely popular preorders.

james832001, thank you so much for your understanding on the back order. We love customers like you :D

While I understand what you're saying, I cannot imagine that the stock machine will NOT get you through college. Not dogging you getting upgrades, more power to you, I just do not see the machine causing issues making it through :) I used my old Sager all through college with no bells and whistles, that being said, you have more patience than I.

Gratz on the machine though!

Random question. I want to order the NP5160, maybe even today, but since it will be probably a month before I get it I wanted to know when Xoticpc charges your card? The day you place the order or when it gets shipped to you? This matters to me since my waiting will be close to a month. Thanks!

This is the weekend.

Who knows how long removal will take.

It looks like the forum Admin will not give any moderator power to any lowly forum members.

Lack of trust or don't care much about the bots.

Simply banning about 100 or so IP domains will cut the bots to a few.

Then adding the new ones as they appear quickly will get us to about 99% free.

The bots need to be removed as quickly as possible and this means around the clock 24/7 moderator coverage.

Send PMs to the Admin expressing your concern, politely.

Contact is in the Members List.

EDIT:24 hrs later and the bot still has not been removed:mad::confused::(

It is the weekend.

I don't think it's the fact they don't care about the bots, but the trust. This is a company forum, so having volunteer mods and not knowing who they are in person, makes them scared to give someone any kind of powers.

But even massively used forums (WoW, Microsoft etc) have volunteer mods to control bots, spam, flaming threads, and whatnot.

I have submitted a few ideas to them, and it was told to me that it would be brought up at their next meeting. So we shall see what the outcome of that meeting was sometime soon (I hope?).

But don't make it sound like Xotic doesn't care, because I'm sure they do care, but they probably don't have many people who are very experienced in this sort of situation.

01-30-2011, 10:58 AM
OK guys since you are discussing don't think powerpack has not ever considered of what you speak.

As a matter of insight pp thought of it more in regards to those posts that get held in limbo for mod approval. pp thought was likely an even bigger issue. Will get back to that later.

Our little bots are annoying but I think mostly benign. I mean they don't post anything of much interest related to the topic of the forum. I mean someone shopping here who all of a sudden sees one of our bots and says you know what? I do want to buy gold or hell yes a sports book, just what I have been looking for, Russian women here I come (sp)! My point is they are so far off they aren't much of a threat. If they started linking say, Xotic coupons yea that could be dangerous.

So why not volunteer mods? I do not personally think a bad idea but I can make up legitimate issues Xotic might have concern with. This is a free and open forum and has grown. It is a resource for anyone not just Xotic customers. That said it is a product/business driven site. They don't want to drive off or offend potential customers. Ad driven sites like NBR do not have that issue.

Once you start MOD'ing where do you stop? I have seen some pretty heated discussions here. Only on the most extreme occasion has MOD intervention happened. Mav and Frost I believe are the most famous. But I even have received a nice message from Justin to sort of relax/behave kind of stuff once.

I think Xotic comes from the school of less moderation is better. I tend to agree with that in the broad picture. I as a poster might be ill informed I might be a surly SOB but I might still buy a notebook from Xotic so why would they want to offend me by MOD'ing me.

I know that is not what you guys are trying to do but every journey starts with the 1st step. As such serious thought does need to go in. Xotic does not MOD Threads/Posts that slam them. It must be so tempting but they don't do.

Smog I like your idea about no links in sig or at least not until a certain amount of posts/time. I actually don't see why on a commercial site like this why links in sig are needed. I have nothing against a poster wanting his personal non commercial or slightly commercial Web site linked. But I hardly think critical to the full usage/enjoyment of this site for that member or others. I feel the same about those other ways of contacting. Set a participation level and or time, the bots bore easily. We do have the PM built in the system so not like communication is very restricted. But I will say on PM's. When I get for some kind of technical support, generally posting would have been better. More eyes tend to resolve things faster. I tend to do my best answering but always steer them back to the threads.

So guys I see your points. But for me volunteer MOD's would be more to get things out of MOD approval limbo. Also consider Xotic is growing and likely doing there best to handle in house.

Like many things in the past year or two Xotic seems to be a victim of their own success. Even this forum and it's activity has grown. I think hard to argue with success. Not that things can't always be improved but one wants to not do things that might have a negative affect.

And if you guys do ever become MOD's and infract me I am going straight to Justin, yea "the" Justin!:p

On the posts in limbo as I have said before there is a way around that. Because bots have very short attention spans and generally not good at following instructions. I have little concern saying.

Write your post and leave links out. Post, then edit and include links. Works every time. Maybe that should be a sticky?

It is clear I get paid by the word!:p:D

Sorry... I stopped reading after "OK".

Kidding. ;) You have a good point, and I agree that less moderation is good, but I wasn't talking about controlling what people say or what is said in threads. I do agree that open discussions (heated or not) are good. It's nice to say what's on our minds.

But on the other hand, the mod discussion was to control the bots and spam. You do know that there are bots/spam that can actually get into forum databases and take information right? If the forums aren't kept up to date or monitored closely, a bot could easily get into a vulnerable system and cause more damage. I've seen this happen a few times on other forums. Would like to try avoiding that on these forums.

I'm all for seeing Xotic succeed. They have been amazing to me, and I'm already looking into buying another 2 laptops from them.

Just some opinions/suggestions.

Intel Series 6 Chipset (Sandy Bridge) Recall Information. (http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=News_Update)

2.01.2011

Intel Series 6 Chipset (Sandy Bridge) Recall Information

Sager and Clevo have consulted together and have decided that both Sager and Clevo will halt all pending shipments of Intel 6 series chipset systems. Models include Sager NP5160, NP5170, NP8130, NP8150, NP8170. (Clevo: W150HNQ, W170HN, P150HM, P151HM1, P170HM).

The current schedule is that starting in the middle of Feb 2011, Intel will start supplying qualification samples of the new revision of Intel 6 series chipset to Clevo. Clevo RD and QC will make it their first priority to test and qualify this new chip revision and prepare for mass production.

Currently the mass production version of the revised 6 series is scheduled to begin delivery from Intel to Clevo in limited quantities at the end of Feb 2011. We estimate that we will resume limited quantity shipment of Sager models NP8130, NP8150, and NP8170 in the middle of March 2011 and limited quantity of NP5160, NP5170 models at the end of March to the beginning of April 2011. Stabilization of shipment for all models should occur by the end of April 2011.

I am seriously thinking about canceling my current order for the NP8150 as I need to have a notebook before March...

I am not sure what I posted in which thread but here it goes. Intel while I commend their up front response trying to get in front of vs behind. Is not about consumer experience it is about their bottom line. I read it will cost them $80 extra for every one they send out. I say get it, enjoy it then let them fix it?

I am with you on this one, as I am happy to sit here with my machine until the new boards become readily available and the turn-around is a week or 2 versus the months it is looking like now. Assuming Asus sticks with its current line of thinking which is nothing at the moment should be in good shape, warranty covers it and all should be well.

Intel's Official Press Release and Information.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 31, 2011 - As part of ongoing quality assurance, Intel Corporation has discovered a design issue in a recently released support chip, the Intel® 6 Series, code-named Cougar Point, and has implemented a silicon fix. In some cases, the Serial-ATA (SATA) ports within the chipsets may degrade over time, potentially impacting the performance or functionality of SATA-linked devices such as hard disk drives and DVD-drives. The chipset is utilized in PCs with Intel's latest Second Generation Intel Core processors, code-named Sandy Bridge. Intel has stopped shipment of the affected support chip from its factories. Intel has corrected the design issue, and has begun manufacturing a new version of the support chip which will resolve the issue. The Sandy Bridge microprocessor is unaffected and no other products are affected by this issue.

The company expects to begin delivering the updated version of the chipset to customers in late February and expects full volume recovery in April. Intel stands behind its products and is committed to product quality. For computer makers and other Intel customers that have bought potentially affected chipsets or systems, Intel will work with its OEM partners to accept the return of the affected chipsets, and plans to support modifications or replacements needed on motherboards or systems. The systems with the affected support chips have only been shipping since January 9th and the company believes that relatively few consumers are impacted by this issue. The only systems sold to an end customer potentially impacted are Second Generation Core i5 and Core i7 quad core based systems. Intel believes that consumers can continue to use their systems with confidence, while working with their computer manufacturer for a permanent solution. For further information consumers should contact Intel at www.intel.com on the support page or contact their OEM manufacturer.

If the unit on order contained a part that Intel has deemed to be affected by the chipset erratum, then that unit will not be shipped to you.

I imagine unshipped stock will be returned to the factories where they were produced or another one and a new chipset will be soldered in to replace the defective one?

When new units are available with a redesigned chipset your order will proably be filled unless you cancell it before it's shipped.

With everything being surface mount these days it is not cost effective to remove a single part for the most part. Kind of like pulling the toner off of one part of a printed page. :) Well not that bad... but really high error rates on rework are a pain.

Personally I'm just kind of peeved as this is a problem yes, but not a big one. Everyone has fallen in line to pull everything back, sitting on expensive CPU inventory (and mostly worthless MBs...).

I have to think Intel paid too little for swaps down stream or too much not to ship things now.

Gimme a laptop you wussies! ;) I'd pay whatever they charge for an upgrade in the future (if I even have the problem) to get it two months sooner. I am really actually supergluing my current one back together on weekends!

I still placed my order because I love the customer service, price and selection at Xotic. These forums are a big bonus too :)

This is going to be a tough wait! I'm not expecting my machine until the end of March and have accepted it may get into April before it ships. Should be worth the wait though. I decked it out and even ordered a C surface skin.

Some good news for those of you waiting for Sager to release B3 stepping chipset notebooks to fill your preorders.

Last week Sager preload server was updated to windows 7 service pack 1. So, any units shipped now will be preloaded with windows 7 service pack 1 + all the latest Sager verified drivers.

Both test beds and production are now under windows 7 service pack 1 + the 3 updated drivers the hope is that this is the solution to fix the user reported freezing issue.

At this time Sager says they are still unable to reproduce the issue on their test units.

The 5160, especially at the price I ordered it for, is exactly what I was looking for, and just about the only laptop on the market that hit the mark for me. Just got an email from Xotic updating my order status to the next level, saying my order will be shipped soon. Ordered Jan 26, Sager NP8170

As of yet, no such love for NP5170's ordered at the same time.

PM JP your Sales Order # and he will let you know an approximate date. I did so and found out I am end of March into April time frame which was I was expecting. Though I was crossing my fingers it would be sooner. :)

Thanks JP for checking that out for me!

For an additional data point my NP5170 order from 1/26 came up for verification Friday.
Might just be a few days out - no reason to think they are doing 'batches' rather than each as needed.

Man, I suddenly became the popular kid on the forums! So many PM's...

No worries, though, if anyone else is curious, I'm just going off an estimate we received from Sager, so feel free to continue contacting me either by PM or email.

And yes, PP, information overload to the MAX. Especially today.

I placed my order on 3/2 for the NP7280-S1 with dual 460m's - they just updated my order with this:

We were notified by Sager that expected shipment did not arrive and is now expected to arrive mid-late March. We apologize for the delay and any inconvenience. Once the item is in stock at Sager, your order production will be completed as quickly as possible.

Meh.

I noticed that the -S1 version doesn't even appear on the site anymore (unless I just overlooked it?)....hope this doesn't mean I am in for some sort of indefinite holding pattern -- I've seen people posting about having placed orders in January...I have no interest in waiting so long. Would sooner pick something else...

I ordered the NP8150-S1 on Jan 26th and my order was just updated to 'New status: Phase 4 (Order Shipped)' on Mar 10th. Expected delivery is Mar 15th with UPS Ground shipping to the east coast from Cal.

My status just updated today and I got a confirmation e-mail quoting my time at around 10-15 days. I ordered on Feb 13th, just to give anyone else waiting on a Sager NP8170 / Clevo P170HM an idea of maybe where they are. This was how I built my machine, I don't know if how you build plays a role in when you get yours but I made a couple changes in the build which shouldn't be a big deal though I believe.

if he has the same skin that means he is either your conjoined twin or you have a split personality disorder, but either way you probably should talk to a doctor about it! :D

I think my 8130 is about to move into P2, but we shall see later.

Hi,

Sager NP8170 stock, only upgraded GTX470M. Yes enjoying it very much; my desktop (i5-750@3.6, ATI5850) is already starting to collect dust lol.

Display is:

Monitor Name Generic PnP Monitor [NoDB]
Monitor ID LGD0285
Manufacturer LG Display
Model LP173WF1-TLC1
Manufacture Date 2009
Serial Number None
Max. Visible Display Size 38 cm x 22 cm (17.3")
Picture Aspect Ratio 16:9
Gamma 2.20
DPMS Mode Support None

The reason I say to sit back a little is because the top will look too dark and the bottom will look bright, but if you sit back it's OK.

you're going to worry yourself into a tizzy over this. I have explained the likely result of this, I really don't know what else to tell you. You either are going to buy one or not and you are either going to get one that has some issue or you won't. You wait long enough and you won't have to worry about it because something else is going to come along and replace these models.

I have never known a computer not to have problems of some sort. From what has been corrected it sounds like the problem has been fixed. You have had one 8130 owner tell you he has not had a problem with his and he has been putting it through the works. Sager has not had any problems with their test machines. I'll post back on how mine works when I get it. At some point you just need to decide whether or not to do it.

One thing to note, if it doesn't work and you do not like it. Send it back and either get a different model or get your money back. Pretty simple. Go to any notebook forum and every single one will have a list of issues, many users never experience. Just the facts of life and pretty much the same with any consumer product. Like Mav said, get it, or don't, but do not stress over every detail.

I appreciate Maverick's advice but I just wanted to hear more than one person's opinion on the matter. Thanks for the replies.

You have to remember, this model is quite new, and just got released after the whole SB debacle, so there really are not a lot of folks who even have it.

Also, since I live in the Caribbean the return of the machine is not the easiest thing to do, another reason i'm so paranoid on the whole matter. I was caught in such a situation when I had my previous MSI giving heating problems right out of the box.

I've had the 8170 for 2 weeks now. No freezing issues at all. I updated windows and all the intel/sager drivers before installing anything else though.

The main thing that I can suggest is to learn all about your hardware as quickly as posibly.

Learn how to disassemble the unit, how to clean the vents, fans and heatsink and replace/reseat parts if needed.Reapply TC each time you remove the heatsinks for cleaning.

Over the years I've learned that it's most often easier and faster to simply reinstall the OS and related drivers/software than to waste a lot of time trying to figure out where the encountered problem lies and how to fix it.

The clean install can usually rule out software as the problem cause.

Most problems I've had were caused by things I did.

Have Windows OS on a USB flash drive ready to install and all the needed drivers and software on another USB flash drive.Keep other needed files backed up on a storage drive that you can't afford to lose.

As you become more proficient at it the less time it takes.

The longer you go without doing a clean fresh install usually means the slower your unit is running.

I redo my computers every 6 months or less if needed.

Have as few running proccesses as possible. If programs are not needed to start with Windows then disable them from starting when the OS boots.

i lent my sister $300 so now i'm short and i'll have to get that money back over the next couple of weeks. i'm just wondering how long the NP8130 and/or the NP8150 will be available here. I remember I was planning to purchase the NP8690 but then it just disappeared from the site..

Considering they just came out I would suspect they will be around for some time yet. Certainly for the next few months.

I don't mean to be redundant by asking questions potentially already answered; I've done a fair amount of searching around the forums and couldn't find anything regarding my question.

It's not a matter of urgency, but I was just wondering how far back the Sager NP8170 back order currently is. I bought one today and I was curious as to how far back in a queue I'd be and roughly how long I might bet waiting. Sager said the back order was expected to be over in late March, but I know they're probably honoring pre-orders and the like before they'd fulfill my extremely recent order.

Thanks.

I just wanted to post my time line for my NP8170-S1~

03/04/2011 - Order Placed
03/10/2011 - check cleared - Phase 1 (Pending Parts or Item Arrival)
03/22/2011 - final spec conformation requested
03/25/2011 - final spec conformation accepted
03/28/2011 - phase 2 (Sent for custom building/testing/burn in & final QA)

It will be longer than the first estimate I got, but shorter than the second. They say I should have my new toy in hand by April 15th, likely sooner.

My laptop arrived today :D
Looks good and the BIOS works... shows the SSD, 16GB RAM and the BDDVD.

p.s. They put an i7 sticker on it, even though I asked not to :(

My stock 8130 just went out the door.

Ordered: Wednesday, March 9th
Phase 1: Tuesday, March 15th
Phase 2: Thursday, March 24th
Phase 3: skipped
Phase 4: Wednesday, March 30th.

21 day turnaround amidst a recall and backorder situation? Looks like Xotic's getting my business next time, too. Only thing to note was that I heard xotic would phone you to ensure your build was correct or if anything needed to be changed before shipping. My build was correct (at least the invoice is, haven't got the computer yet), so not an issue, but this didn't happen for me.

they emailed me a verification email, which they didn't do on the first sager I order from them so it was a new experience and a welcome one.

I had been back and forth via email with a sales rep a couple of times before I ordered (and once after to check on the status) so perhaps that counts as my contact? Dunno. Regardless, I was just surprised as I was under the impression they'd call. In retrospect, though, I'm not certain where I got that impression.

They called me the day after I placed the order to verify my specs and all. I didn't know they'd call me; I was pretty impressed. Don't know why you didn't get a call -- maybe something just went wrong.

Anyways, only about 24 hours between phase 1 and 2. This is moving along nicely and much faster than I expected.

Just wanted to say hello.
New here (both in the forums and to Xotic).
First off, hats off to Hutsady (my rep). He rocked! Answered questions quickly and knowledgably. I am going to stay with Xotic for rep assistance alone.
Next, Got my Sager NP8130 about a week ago. No glitches, issues or anything else that I can find.
All in all, I am supremely happy with everything about Xotic from beginning to end. So happy in fact, I dont regret getting two laptops here (one for my wife too). I cant wait to get a good PC game (RPG open world hopefully) to fully explore the new computer stats that I have never had the opportunity to enjoy before now.

That is good to hear. November time frame is when Elder Scrolls V: Sky Rim should be coming out. If it is anything like Oblivion it will be open world and then some ;) I'm sure you will find an open world RPG before than, but that is one game I am getting right away and may even spring for a limited edition if they have one.
