View Full Version : How well does the fingerprint reader work?

I am wondering how well the fingerprint reader works since I had looked around before I found xotic and few of the other computers I saw had fingerprint readers. Is this because the reader does not work that well so most companies did not bother giving the option or are they just slow at getting them?

Hmm, don't know, I haven't tried mine yet. (Don't have my lappy yet). I'll try it out when I get it though.
I just think it kind of gives a bit of James Bond 007 flavor to your lappy. I'm such a nerd. :)

I used it ever since I got my Sager last year for logging on to websites and such. Neat feature :D

I have used it everyday since I bought my laptop to login. It works well and allows for a quick login. You may need to get used to it at first, but it is very easy to use.

It's easy to use.
But if your unlucky like I was with my dad's lenovo that I borrowed before I got my 9262...
(I spent two hours on that thing and I could never get it to work... It wanted three swipes and the first two would work fine, the third one never would. :S )

I hated the software for my old laptop i had. I couldn't give my brother's and my finger both access. Only I could use my computer:mad: That was my old one though I dunno ''bout this:confused:

You can program finger prints for all ten of your fingers, or five of your own and five of anothers... or one finger print from ten people :p.

I have had mine disabled for the past six months because the software had a memory leak when I had it running...I believe there are fixes to this leak, I didn't use the reader so I just disabled the thing. OCG, how did you resolve the memory leak? and has anyone who has a more recent machine (NP5793-5396) run into the same issue? I'm wondering if they ship with updated drivers/software since the 5792s

Just update to the newest drivers ;). Simple as pie.

Sounds like it is all good as long as you keep it all updated. How big are the updates?

They are fairly small, but you usually only need to worry about updates if you have an older model ;).

I think the finger reader is pretty unique since most laptops don't have it. I like the security of having it since no-one can reproduce you're own fingerprints. I didn't know that you could program it to all ten of your fingers and so on. That's sweet. I'll be ordering my NP9262 right before I go back to college on the 24th. How long do these laptops take to get to you?

I guess it depends on the method of payment, checks take longer to clear (eChecks as well), CC's are instant. Also I beleive the NP9262 is delayed until August 11th, due to lack of 9800M series video cards being sent to Clevo from nVidia.

Check around the forums, search around to see other community members dates from phase to phase.

How long the lappy takes to get to you depends on a few factors.
It could take from about 1 week to 4 weeks from date of clearing of funds.

Here's sort of how the flow works:

Phase #1 ordering and payment. = Depending on what form the funds are sent in please allow 1 to 2 weeks for clearing. Money orders and personal checks and the like could take up to 2 weeks to clear. Credit card of course would be almost instant, but you would not get a cash discount. Here's a tip to make the clearing go faster and still get your cash discount. You can either have the funds wired which can be expensive or send in a "Bank check" with which you would get the cash discount and it would only take about 2 days or so to clear.

Phase #2 Production = Please allow 7 to 10 business days

Phase #3 Testing/QC and if ordered, graphics skinning or painting. If your not doing graphics on your lappy then please allow 2 to 3 business days

Phase #4 Shipping (Standard Ground 3 to 7 business days)

If your having the lappy built and shipped to you direct from production you could have it in the shortest time. As short as 1 week from production in some cases.

I would recommend some patience and let it go to XoticPC for testing/QC for a couple of days as they test each lappy rigerously to make sure its perfect. Of course it has to go back to them anyway if your having skinning or painting done. Obviously allowing extra time for that if thats the case.

Hope that helps. :)
