Hello Xoticpc fans,
I'm a graphic designer in college on my 3rd year and I'm now in the market for a really, really good laptop as a desktop replacement. I was looking at Alienware systems and then I read negative reviews about their laptops and service so I found out about the Sager laptops. I was impressed by the looks and performance of these laptops. I am now very close to buying a system and will probably go with the NP9262. Here's what I plan on using it for.

- Some Crysis, Call of Duty 4, hardcore gaming
- Graphic work such as Adobe Photoshop CS3, Illustrator CS3
- Website Design, Adobe Flash CS3, Animation, Dreamweaver
- 3D renderings, 3D Animation,
- Music, Watching DVD's, Burning,
- Downloading from the internet extensively
- Recording music through mic (Classical guitar) Creating CD's of my Music

Needs -
- Large Screen 17" will be good enough
- Lots of Ram (preferably 8 Gigs)
- Dual Graphics Cards (highest quality available)
- Glossy Screen
- Windows Vista Ultimate
- HDMI, External LCD monitor outputs
- High resolution
- Best Warranty, including 3 yr, onsite parts and repair. (the $450 warranty is what I chose)
- I Don't care about looks and asthetic stuff. I want raw power! It can look plain no the outside.

Now I am not sure if I've mentioned everything I want in it but here's my budget: $5500.:D I literally want the best I can get for that much. I just wanted some good advice from anyone who wants to be of help to me and it will be very much appreciated. I also am going with the fingerprint recognition software thing too for password protection. I thought that was pretty cool. ;)

Since I'll be using this computer for all my computing needs It will have to last and stand up to daily use. I don't mind if it weighs 15lbs because I won't be transporting it much. What I want to avoid is buying a lower end system and then wishing I would have bought the higher end stuff that I was originally wanting. I'm thinking I'll go with 8 gigs of ram because It can't hurt to have more than you need.

I even looked at Apple Macbook Pros but those didn't appeal to me since I've been a PC user since I ever first had my own computer. I live on campus so I need to be able to bring my computer (laptop) home without lugging a desktop pc all over the place. Thanks for your support and advice :)

P.S. I love XoticPC.com They are a great Site!

Holy hell sir, what would you ever need 8GB of RAM for... O_O! Wow, if you have a $5500.00 budget... You can buy pretty much anything you want.

I see you want the best, so I must mention some top products that you can obviously afford. First is the Solid State drives ($400 a pop) extremely fast, and then theres a Blu-Ray player/burner ($400), keyboards, mouses, cases, etc, more details with this massive budget.

Obviously the only suitable option is the Sagar NP9262, the ultimate D.R.
Here's a build I rather enjoyed building :D

- 17" WUXGA "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen (1920x1200)
- Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
- Standard Dead Pixel Policy
- ~Intel Core 2 QUAD Q9550 2.83GHz w/ 12MB L2 Cache - 1333MHz FSB
- SLI ENABLED DUAL (2) 512MB PCI-Express nVidia GeForce 9800M GT (1024MB Total) w/GDDR3 DX10 Video Cards (User Upgradeable)
- None Standard
- ~ 8,192MB DDR2 667 (2 SODIMMS) Dual Channel Memory
(Requires Vista 64-Bit to reconginzed 4GB+)
(Up to 6.8GB due to Chipset Limitation)
- Panasonic UJ-220 Blu-Ray Super Multi DVD+/ -R/RW BD-R/RE Dual Layer Burner -
- ~ 500GB 5400RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 8MB Cache)
- ~ 500GB 5400RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 8MB Cache)
- ~ 500GB 5400RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 8MB Cache)
- HDD Raid Settings - OFF
- Internal 7-in-1 Card Reader (MS/MS Pro/MS Duo/MS Pro Duo/SD/Mini-SD/MMC/RS)
- Internal Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR
- Built-in Intel® PRO/Wireless 4965 802.11 a/g/n
- Built in 2.0 Megapixel Camera
- Sound Blaster Compatible 3D Audio - Included
- Basic Black Business Case - Included
- Smart Li-ion Battery (12 Cell)
- ~Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit Installed (64&32-Bit CD Included) w/ Drivers & Utilities CD's
- Sager 2 Year Parts & Labor Warranty + 30 Day NO Deacd Pixel Warranty w/ Lifetime 24/7 DOMESTIC Toll Free Customer Support
$5,563.00

Now that was fun to build, that my friend is one powerful computer, what brought the price up from $5200 to $5500 was the warranty, so here is a more... "Realisitc" I guess would be the world in your case, build.

- 17" WUXGA "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen (1920x1200)
- Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
- Standard Dead Pixel Policy
- ~Intel Core 2 QUAD Q9550 2.83GHz w/ 12MB L2 Cache - 1333MHz FSB
- SLI ENABLED DUAL (2) 512MB PCI-Express nVidia GeForce 9800M GT (1024MB Total) w/GDDR3 DX10 Video Cards (User Upgradeable)
- ~ 8,192MB DDR2 667 (2 SODIMMS) Dual Channel Memory
(Requires Vista 64-Bit to reconginzed 4GB+)
(Up to 6.8GB due to Chipset Limitation)
- Standard Finish
- Panasonic UJ-220 Blu-Ray Super Multi DVD+/ -R/RW BD-R/RE Dual Layer Burner -
- ~ 500GB 5400RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 8MB Cache)
- ~ 500GB 5400RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 8MB Cache)
- HDD Raid Settings - OFF
- Internal 7-in-1 Card Reader (MS/MS Pro/MS Duo/MS Pro Duo/SD/Mini-SD/MMC/RS)
- Internal Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR
- Built-in Intel® PRO/Wireless 4965 802.11 a/g/n
- Built in 2.0 Megapixel Camera
- Sound Blaster Compatible 3D Audio - Included
- Basic Black Business Case - Included
- Smart Li-ion Battery (12 Cell)

- Sager 3 Year Parts & Labor Warranty + 30 Day NO Dead Pixel Warranty w/ Lifetime 24/7 DOMESTIC Toll Free Customer Support
$5,368.00

Add shipping, and it should just be fine, note that, that is the best warranty you can get, therefore it will raise the price quite a lot (The first build was the secondary class warranty). Now what on earth you'd need 8GB's of RAM for is beyond me, but if you have that kind of money and are willing to purchase it, then do!

Please.. Tell me how this goes, this is one reaction I'm excited to see .

Bill...

[EDIT: Sorry the Solid State drives seem to be unavailable for who knows why (Not like you'd need em'), and I forgot to comment on your comments. Firstly Sagar is a great brand, they build for power not a two grand chassis that has a light-up keyboard... (Not going to make any references to whom that may be), as for MBP, well it's nice, but It's definitely not a gaming machine, which it seems like what your looking for (As well as graphic design etc.), if your going with the Fingerprint device then you'd need to buy it USB for the NP9262, though there are Sagars that have it built in, but are not as nearly as powerful as a D.R. than the NP9262. I hope you get what your looking for]

P.S. I'd throw in a certain Targus Backpack, as this might weigh a little much, and carrying 15lbs+ on your back seems... Heavy?

Hey Bill, Yeah I've saved up the entire summer for this computer. I just want a BEAST of a computer, lol. I actually have $5700. By my next paycheck in two weeks I'll have the money. I'll keep you posted on it. Thanks for the info.

No problem, I'm excited to see how a computer with this budget and this much technology and power going into it turns out.

Remember this is just my opinion, tweak it to your liking :D, there are also a lot of community members who frequent this particular board and I'm sure they'd love to give some great suggestions.

Holy Hatshepsut Talldan!!! That's some budget!! You could get a laptop of pure power with that and then some!

Here is a config I came up with that still leaves money in your pocket.
I don't know about HDMI so I'm not sure if the GPU I put in has that. You'll have to ask Justin or anyone in the know on that.
I wasn't sure if you were thinking multi-HD RAID either, so I left that out. It's probably best without it with what your using it for.
I also did not put in a BlueRay drive as I thought DVD and CD burning are a little more important for your needs you stated.
I also included a back-up external HD. Looking at what you'll be doing I would highly recommend it (since it's on sale anyway). I'm not doing anything near what you are doing but after having a system burn up on me and losing an important HD, I now have External HDs for all my systems!

yes, save some money by not getting 1.5 TB of hd. lol, i dont know anyone who could fill up even 1 TB

consider the 4gb of RAM as youre only getting 2 gb more for another 800 bucks... you wont need 6gb anyway

The Bill

Not to mention the fact, no one is going to have 10,000 programs open at once (As far as I know...), therefore require 8GB, note though he is getting 8GB, its just the chip set will only go to 6.2GB or something like that.

If he gets crazy like that and puts the highest of everything in his machine, he could probably control the weather with the thing! I had fun playing with the config on that as well. If I had that kind of money I would have configured my machine a little differently, but I don't know if I would go to all that....well, maybe. I would love to see the final config Talldan does and pics when he gets it! That is one beast of a unit! That thing would blow away most desktops I think!

The RAM would def. blow away most desktops. The GFX Card and Processor for laptops vs. Desktops is not even a race, desktop wins with pure power and performance.

But back on topic! :D

Any updates/decisions on your product yet?

I've been away for a few days, unfortunately having to frequent the library to get online. I'm so busy working that I've not had very much time to decide but I've thought about a few things so far. I definitely don't need 1.5Terabytes of hard-drive space because I have a 320Gig external storage unit (the Simple Tech by Pininifari). I don't really want a blue ray drive either although that would be something to talk about. I'm skipping all asthetics looks and going for a "sleeper" (as they call cars that are tuned inside but not for looks).

Thinking about what one of you said, maybe I don't need 8 gigs if only 6.2 gigs are recognized. I know 4 gigs would be enough. Am I just wasting money by getting 8 gigs? I still would like 8 gigs just for the sake of having that in a laptop.

I read all advice and will do so more once I get back to school and have more time to get online. When I have more time to get online I'll definitely be on here more often learning everything I can. As well as reading from this forum I'll keep you all updated on my decisions and then when I finally get my lappie, i'm going to make an unboxing movie and post it on Youtube, haha. I'll post pictures, and list all my configurations. Must go to work now. Peace

:)

If you minus 8GB of RAM, 1.5TB, and a Blu-ray drive you save a crap load of money. Enough to get the best warranties.

As for having a 8GB or not, if you want it go ahead. Personally I've always been a budget heavy guy, so when I think about spending that kinda of moolah for that much RAM.. Well I don't. 4GB is already considered a high-standard amount of RAM, as nothing really utilizes 8GB of RAM.. Yet (I guess..). So this decision is up to you, you do however never have to worry about RAM usage again, and major bragging rights :p.

Its nice to have money for the Warranties and of course accessories, games, etc.

I like this config and the fact that I save a substantial ammount of money. But one thing is for certain, i'm definitely going for the best warranty they offer. For spending that much I want the best service to back it up. When I have more time i'll config the NP9262 and list it on here.

The extra change would go to a large drawing tablet and the adobe Creative Suite CS3 masters edition. I was also wondering if anyone had any ideas where I could get a good deal on the Adobe CS3 Master Edition too?

I think I thought about going with 8GB of RAM because I like the idea of bragging rights, lol. But perhaps I would go with 6GB instead. Also I may like a Blu-ray drive too but not neccessary. And 3 HD at 200GB 7200 RPM is great also. I would eventually like to get two 22"LCD monitors and hook them up via HDMI ports, and possibly get a 32" HDTV to hook up VIA HDMI to watch movies. Of course that's off in the future a little ways, I have to buy the laptop first. I'm not really worried about saving money because I've almost settled with spending $5500 and if I don't then I might have wished I had got something better. Who knows, sometime I might have 30 programs open at once. Is the Core II extreme much faster than a Quad Core? I was looking at Alienware before I came here and they had a Core 2 Extreme processor. I was just wondering the difference. I'm still going with the NP9262 either way, I was just curious. :)

Oh by the way, I clean toilets for my job. I earn good money though, lol and its an easy job too. But I just thought that was something I'd mention, somewhat funny I thought.

Its my part-time job while I am at College and in the summer. I work at an office building.

*applauds the triple post*

The Extreme label just means that the multiplier is unlocked. I.E. easy for overclocking. But since this is a laptop, I HIGHLY recommend NOT messing with the CPU's core speed (other than letting the laptop turn itself down when it'd not really doing anything).
And trust me, 8gigs is too much. I doubt that you will ever use more than 4gigs. Well, unless your running a program that has a memory leak you wont :S
Plus since the chipset only recognizes 6.2GB (or is it 6.8GB, I forget), you'll have 2gigs of Ram just wasting away. Also, the 9262 only comes with 2, 4, or 8GB of RAM.

Also, why 3 200GB HD's? Why not 3x 320GB 5400RPM's? Believe me you will NOT notice a difference between the two speeds. It might shave off a whole .5 seconds off of load times. So you can save 15$ and gain 360GB of space.

Ok guys, Here's what I've come up with so far. I've gone on a customizing mission today and I think this is what I want. As for the 8GB of Ram I'm going to go ahead and get it. The reason is because some of the graphic illustrations and designs I make even bog down the MAC PRO G5's that they have in the graphics lab at my College. That gets super frustrating. I know that only 6.8GB is recognized but then I can just tell people I have 8GB of memory and blow thier minds. Its not a matter of saving money with this budget because I intended to spend it all. Then I decided to go with 320GB HD 5400RPM Unless you can have a primary hd with a 7200RPM 320GB HD and the two others at 5400RPM 320GB, If anyone has any advice on having different speed HD's then I would like to know about that. So here's the Specs I have for this BEASTY of a LAPPIE! :D:D:D ...Enjoy Salivating over this monster.

My Personal Configurations for my new Sager NP9262  ...am I dreaming? (lol)

Whats the use of the TV tuner? I didn't include it either to shave off a $150 bucks or so. Just thought it wasn't necessary to me now. So give me opinions on this. :) Thanks

I forgot to mention that I am going to order when I get back up to school which is around August 24. I move into the residence hall where I'm living in a single room - niiiice

Also the price leaves me with a little left for the shipping/handling. Does anyone have any idea what the S/H are on these laptops? Why don't they tell you what it is in the checkout?

I know, my major should have been a Batchelors degree of Toilet Cleaning, I'm sure you make more than I do Anewbus, lol. Its called saving $$$ any way I can. :P

lol, You would be surprised, an average accountant makes less than you might think. (30K to 36K annually) In california that doesn't go far at all.

I know shipping generally runs around $37 or so for standard ground. It might vary for certain reasons though, so I can't say with 100% certainty. Of course express shipping is way up there.

As for your config: you packed in ther tight, aren't you. :p Is the kitchen sink in there as well? I noticed you didn't mention it. ('m just funning you). I don't know the technical impact of the HDs, but you definitely have bragging rights if nothing else. I think your ready. You might want to discuss your HDs at least with someone in the know at XoticPC before you place your order so that you have all your ducks lined up. You might want to also find out about any heat and battery impact that might have. You can ask about shipping too.

Those specs are very nice, astounding.

That computer should be one mighty powerhouse. It'll last a long, long time, that is for sure.

Congratulations on finding the perfect build btw, enjoy it when it comes. How are you paying anyway? You could get another discount via eCheck, Check etc. (3% I believe).

Nice specs though, enjoy them :D

That's what I thought - one screaming machine for sure! I would need it to last me at least 4 or 5 years. I'll be done with college in a few years so I hope it would last me that long and a few years after that.

I was figuring on paying with paypal. I use paypal for eBay all the time so I figured that would be the way to pay - one BIG payment too. Would they give me a 3% discount with that?

I took my old dell into the repair shop and they wanted to charge me $128 to replace the power supply, $65 (overpriced) for the psu, then $35 to plug it in, and $35 extra for a stupid diagnostic. And to add to the mayhem it was a fat indian guy who sounded like those people you get on the phone from Dell. I am about to go insane. I guess I'll have to buy a brand new PSU. I bought two used ones off eBay without success, the first one never got in the mail, the second one came quick but was dead too.

Dell, Best Buy, bah, all the same with their silly services. I beleive an additional service for purchasing a laptop with Best Buy is installing the Operating System for an additional $200... Made me 'lol. But enough slandering Best Buy.

You can get a 3% discount if you pay with eCheck via PayPal (Which is what I did). To do this you have to add a chequing account via PayPal, this takes about 3-6 days I believe as they have to confirm it via a method that is explained once everything is setup. Oh and, hey, I've been away so haven't had a chance to ask this:

Updates?! :D

[EDIT: Nice signature motto, applies to your computer, that's for sure, lol]

Hey guys,
I've decided to drop my budget to $3500. I know, I got all hyped up about buying the fastest beast that I could get and now this. I was just thinking it over and decided it was crazy to blow every bit of money I've worked for all summer to get this kind of a laptop. So if someone would be so kind to configurate the NP9262 for me with my new budget I would be delighted. I wanted to keep some money in the bank as well as get a decent computer. So I think I can do with a $3500 budget.

I still want a 17" screen, probably 4 gigs or ram, the quadcore. Don't need the blu-ray player, and can probably go with 3 HD at 200GB 5400RPM. But I'll definitely spend $3500 and no more and no less. I figure that by the time that I'm done with school I might want to get a better one and they'll probably have come out with something better.

Thanks... :)

Wow, this is still one kick-ass machine with this config. (I figured why not make the primary HD a bit beefy and then have the other two as data drives). I also assumed you wanted Vista. I also beefed up the warranty to "awesome" :D

If you wanted to, you could drop the video card to the 512mb level and that would change the price to $2849.86 with cash discount. (The 512mb card would still kick butt, but its up to you, either way is good).

Hey Anewbus,
This is perfect. I can save money while still getting a great laptop. I was also going to ask if the Combo 8x8x6x4x Dual Layer DVD can burn DVD's? I was also wondering if there was high definition with the combo drive or is that only the blu ray drive.
Another option Is that I'm considering going with the NP5796 customized to the utmost with my current budget. If you could come up with something with in the NP5796 I would consider that. Whats you're opinion on the SAGER NP9262 vs the NP5796? Thanks

NP5796:
+ Not heavy
+ Supports 9800m GTX
+ Gets decent battery life.
+ Case looks a little nicer then NP9262's

NP9262
- 12lbs!
+ Supports 9800m GTX in 2x SLI
+ Supports 3hard drive (which means raid)
+ Supports desktop CPU (which means quad core)
- Low battery life (Just requires to much juice to run all the toys)

Hi Lymn,
yeah I think i might just go with the NP 5796 although I would like a blu ray drive with it but it wasn't showing that option when I went to customize the 5796. I wonder if they aren't putting them in there. I was also wondering if the regular combo drive can play HD and burn DVDs? Can the Sager NP5796 hook up to a high definition TV? So I don't really need GTX graphics cards to do grapics work or animation? I'm not a serious gamer. I do stuff on Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator CS3 Etc. If I could get the blu-ray drive with the NP5796 i would go with that unless the combo drive plays in HD. My brains spinning.

The graphics card is going to be doing all of the 3d/2d heavy lifting regardless of how you view it. (On laptop screen, through VGA port, through DVI port, through HDMI port) so video card ALWAYS matters.

Not really sure about the blueray drive, If you're getting into video editing you can fit a full length HD movie on a double layer DVD using the h264 codec with a little work. The BlueRay burner for the NP5796 is supposed to be available late august.

The NP5796 supports HDMI out, the NP9262 does not (however, it does have a DVI out, which you can get an adapter for.)

Really you have to ask your self what do you want more? Performance or Portability?

If you're not going to be playing the latest and greatest games and you're not going to be doing crazy 3d renderings I would go with the NP5796. It's portable, 1 9800GTX will be way more power then you need for day to day applications like Photoshop and Illustrator. What you want most is hard drive space and memory and CPU speed. Currently CS3 does not support quad cores very well and you would see more performance out of a faster duel core.

Your welcome Talldan. Here’s a config for the 5796. I stuck with the 1680x1050 screen because it draws less power and you really won’t need or notice much difference with the higher res screen at $90 more. I have the 1680x1050 screen and that thing is clear and as sharp as can be. I put it up against three other laptops at work (two Lenovo’s and a Toshiba) and it won everybody’s praise.
I also went with the biggest proc at 25 watt to help maximize batt life. (plenty powerful). I also chose the beefiest HD there (500GB) for obvious reasons and finally the same warranty as I did for the 9262. I chose the 1GB video memory, but you can drop it to 512MB if you want and save a little more money if need be.

Yes, the combo 8x8x6x4x Dual Layer DVD burns DVDs and CDs. It is not High def. The BlueRay does not burn, only plays I believe. (I could be wrong, but good luck finding blank media anyway).

My opinon on the 9262 and the 5796: Well, they both have their points. Both are way nice, of course there is not a dud in the whole lot of what XoticPC offers. In minute details though I think the 5796 looks a bit nicer in the case than the 9262. The 5796 is more streamlined and you get a choice of trim (Orange or Silver).
The 5796 weighs in at about 8 lbs and the 9262 comes in at 11.5 lbs if weight is a concern to you.
The 9262 supports 3 HDs with raid, the 5796 has one HD (easily compensated for by using an external HD if you like).
The 9262 supports SLI, but that tech for laptops is not here yet and there is no confirmed ETA so that’s sort of a moot point there.
The battery life is a tad better potentially on the 5796 because your not already powering 3 HDs to start out with. This means you’ll be able to plug in more goodies on the 5796 because there would be a bit more juice available.

Hey Anewbus,
I was just checking these specs out and they are great at an awesomely great price! Wow! i'm impressed with the results. So I really think this is the one I'll order now. I like that I'm saving $2500 from my previous crazy budget. Now I can get some accessories as well. And I like that it has the 4GB of Ram too.

I love the orange trim around the NP9262. That's very striking and stylish. I would go for that. This thing is perfect for what I need really. I don't expect to be doing any gaming hardly because i'm going to be so busy taking 18 credit hours this semester which is 6 classes obviously. So this would suite me just great! I might just still go with the higher res though just because In graphics work I need the highest I can get. I think I can afford $90 extra.

Do you by any chance know how long you have to wait for the laptop once you order? Thanks again man. :)

Hey Talldan,

You mean the trim around the 5796 not the 9262.:p
I'm glad I could help you.:) As for gaming, in case you do have a moment for it someday, this machine will handle that for you too. Just thought I would mention that so you know you have the option available ready to go.

As to how long: It depends. If there are no parts delays with Sager, such as the higher res screens or whatever it may be and if your having the lappy shipped straight from production then it could be anywhere from about 2 to 3 weeks or so, maybe sooner. I'm trying to account for varibles with that esimate such as method of payment (personal checks, money orders and such allow up to 2 weeks for clearing, credit cards, bank checks are almost instant and wires and pay pal about 3 days or so). Production takes about 5 to 7 business days.
If you paying cash so you can get your cash discount, I recommend you try to pay by bank check, it processes quick. (That's what I did and it cleared in a day).
I recommend you talk your payment options (and anything else that comes up) over with one of the great folks at XoticPC.:XPCS::notworthy

Yeah i may have that moment where I want to play a game so that's a good thought as well. Is echeck just paying over the phone and giving them you're bank account number. Its like using a check through the phone. I'll give them a ring-a-ling and see whats up. :smile2:

I went to my bank today and wired the money! It should get there tomorrow and my laptop should be on its way to me! Yessssss

So anyways my Professor thought it was a little high priced but I told him the graphics card was awesome, and it had 4Gigs of ram, etc and he really wasn't too impressed. Oh well. I think he's a mac believer though. He was trying to convince me about how macs are better. I don't like the User Interface on macs. I'm a PC Sager man. Hope this lappie is what I like and works for me. ;)

Your professor is calling the kettle black. Macs aren't inexpensive either! The lowest end Macbook runs about $1800, but they can go as high as $3500+! Macs are solid performers and these days for things such as audio processing or graphics arts Macs and PCs can run neck and neck, but one thing a Mac notebook can not do is run games. I'd like to see your professor's Mac run MoH or CoD or whatever at full whack! I bet it can't. These days Macs are really only better in regards to the OS and that they are not subject to all the viruses and such out there, but that's where the edge stops.
Your going to love your lappy!:D If I am able to run CoD at full whack on my Force 3298 with a 2.1GHz proc, 2GB of RAM and an 8600GT w/512MB and no problems then I can only imagine what your lappy will do!:XPCS::notworthy

PHASE II!!!! My lappies going into production! I'm ecstatic! The email said it was being sent to custom building, production, testing, and stuff. 3-7 business days. So I would expect it in about 2 weeks (weeks being business days) Anyways at least my wire payment went through pretty quickly. I'll keep you'all updated. I'll put up some picture links to my computer.

My old dell got a nasty virus on it and it basically crashed. I got the "Antivirus 2009" virus from somewhere. I learned that it basically spreads over your computer and keeps you from being able to surf websites and slows the computer way down. So I'm just giving that computer away. The only thing i could do for that computer would be to maybe wipe the hard drive. I tried system restore with no results. It would not even do anything because I couldn't restore it. :D:cool:

I'm still waiting on my lappie. Its still in production of course but I'm not complaining because its in Phase 2 already and I got a small discount by wiring my monies to xoticpc. So I'm looking forward to the next Phase. I'm checking out accessories while waiting on my Lappie to ship. Here's a short list and the links to what I think I need.

Accessories wish list -
1. Laptop cooler aluminum laptop cooler (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1828903&CatId=3486)
2. Laptop Backpack laptop backpack (http://cgi.ebay.com/New-17-Laptop-Case-Computer-Bag-Notebook-Backpack-15-4_W0QQitemZ110287468073QQihZ001QQcategoryZ31520QQs sPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
3. 28" LCD monitor lcd monitor 28" (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3224143&CatId=3774)
4. gaming mouse gaming mouse (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3312435&CatId=2390)
5. CybertabletM14 writing and drawing tablet (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3586990&CatId=140)

These are a few things I would like to get although I'll probably end up spending another $600 to $700 on these accessories. I think they would benefit me very much and pay off for me in the end. I'd use the monitor to do graphic work on and the gaming mouse might be nice for everything. I wonder if I should get a seperate keyboard so I don't wear down the lappies keyboard. I might just get one of those foldable, water resistant keyboards washable keyboard (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3119128&CatId=142)
I think these are pretty neat. I could us that to wear out and it would keep my laptops keyboard clean and free of too much wear and use. But I don't know how soon I'd get these but hopefully soon after I get my laptop. I'm going into Web design so i'm going to be on the computer many hours a day. I think that these things will just facilitate my workspace.

If you have any ideas or places that I could get these items cheaper, or better deals I would love to know, so enlighten me and put links to any recommendations. Thanks!

That sidewinder isnt very comfortable(in my opinion)... you should go to your local best buy and feel some mice before you pick which one you want, they have some other nice gaming ones that are much more comfortable like the logitech G7 or whatever number it is?

Very nice lappy though :XPCS::notworthy I cant wait to order mine hopefully this week ^_^

The laptop cooler looks like it might work, it's a good brand. I would google it though as you "might" find a better price or retailer than TigerDirect. (TigerDirect is far too pushy and rude in my past dealings with them anyway. You have to fight them to get what you want).

I don't know about that monitor. The price is great for a monitor that size, but I'm thinking you should take a look at the fine print. I've never heard of that name before and they could be a one month company. Also if your going for a 28 inch screen have you considered getting a 32 inch flat panal TV? Yes, it would be about $250 more, but for a 28 inch $450 monitor, that's pretty much a one trick pony. Yes, you can hook your lappy to a flat panel TV, just look for a model that has a "RGB" (VGA) port, most do. It's just a thought. You may also want to google your monitor choices as well.

Dislexi also makes a very good suggestion to go to the store (BestBuy or whatever) and look and feel the mice there to be sure.

As for those washable keyboards = no good for gaming. The tactical feel is all whacky and response can be wierd, so general typing on them is sketchy too. If it were me, I'd rethink the keyboard.

Yeah, definitely will google the cooler or look for a better price. I think that the cooler is important so that I'll be able to keep my lappie cool. I haven't bought too much stuff off Tigerdirect. I bought an hp laptop for my sister there. I really don't like their technical support though - it sucks.

As for the monitor I'm agreeing with you. The name I've never heard of either. It looks like a deal but there was only one or so reviews on it. I have thought about the 32" HDTV which would be spectacular! I'm got a 32" HDTV at Walmart for about $500 bucks, think it was a vizio or something but i took it back. I used it for playing halo 3. I loved it. So now I'm almost convinced to get a 32" HDTV since that would give me an ample amount of space for graphic work and stuff as well as awesome for games. I probably wouldn't get it at Walmart, maybe go to circuit city or something. I think I don't want to wait another week to get a TV in the mail and pay s/h. I'll look for one that has the RGA (VGA) ports.

Is it possible to hook up to the TV through HDMI ports to my lappie? Does the NP5796 have the hdmi port? Unfortunately I think it didn't have the option for the HDMI port on my lappie. Idk though.

I will probably not spend so much on a mouse. I was just throwing one out there to get suggestions on what is a good mouse to get. I need it to be mobile, yet responsive and easy to handle without too much stuff on it. The writing and drawing tablet is sweet. I might try to find it cheaper also. And I won't go with the washable keyboard. I was just considering an external keyboard to keep my lappies keyboard in top shape because I know i'll be using my computer everyday for at least 5 to 6 hours.

Thanks Dislexi for the advice on the mouse. I'll check out some models at best buy or circuit city, maybe staples to get the feel for what I want. :)

If you want a top quality hdtv, get a samsung(best), sony second and vizio in third... my b/f sold tv's at sears so those are the best quality. I wouldn't recommend ever buying electronics from walmart, they are lower quality, even though they are cheaper :P The best place to get a tv is either sears or best buy, but best buy costs more. The tv quality is the same at both stores.

About the mouse, the logitech G7 or G9, one or the other is a wireless gaming and very nice if you want it portable and responsive. I believe it's the G9? About the keyboard, there are some very nice responsive gaming keyboards. Some have lcd displays on them that show you info. I dont know if you've heard of Newegg.com, but they have a little bit of everything and you can find some nice mice and keyboards as well as monitors/tv's and lots of other electronics.

Hope you find exactly what you want for your lappy ^_^

A cooler is important. I still haven't picked one up myself yet. (I need to do that). Of course, right now I'm not using my lappy more than an hour a day, so I'm not having any heat issues, but I still want to get a cooler.

If your lappy has an HDMI port then by all means, you can hook in that way. (I don't think the 5796 does either). I wonder of there is an expansion card for that? (I doubt it, as it would have run directly off the GPU I would think). A 32 inch 720p TV would work fine as it's native resolution is about 1366x768. 1080p is 1920x1000 or something. The 1080p's are expensive though. You'll want to look at Sharp, Samsung and LG. Definitely go pick one up instead of paying shipping. A 32 inch TV is no bigger than 34 inches in width and only weighs about 30 pounds.

An external keyboard is a very good thing (I stuck one to my lappy because I can't type on a lappy at all). It's just that the washable foldable ones are no good.

I don't think there is a best buy around my area but there is a sears at the mall.... so I should check at sears. Well in my opinion Sony is a great brand even better than Samsung but they are expensive because of their name of course. So that would leave me with the option of a Samsung. I was lucky I took that vizio back to Wal-Mart only a few days after i bought it and fortunately they gave back my monies.

Will check out those mouses though. I just need something functional and use-able not extremely fancy. So the logitech G7 or G9 would work great for me. Yep, I've gone on Newegg.com numerous times. I almost bought a desktop off of there until I decided to get a laptop and started researching and found xoticpc.com. I do think they have quality stuff though. I might get these accessories over a period of time. So probably the first thing i'll get is a laptop backpack, cooler, and the 32" HDTV....and an xbox 360 and halo 3, lol jk.

Be careful with Sony, they can be propritary which means you may have to jump through a lot of specific hoops to get it to work the way you want. Sony's are over-priced anyway in my opinion. Vizo's are Panasonic's answer to Insignia. Doesn't necessarily mean they are bad though, however they are made a bit cheaper. I would look at Sharp or Samsung to really narrow it down. (Sharp has better customer support than Samsung, but I have heard a lot of good things about the quality of the Samsung TVs as well as Sharp). I'm in the market myself for a 32 inch. (I should go for a 37 inch at minimum, but I can't afford one).

If you dont want to spend a lot on a mouse, you could do what i'm gonna do and get one of the cheap $30 wireless mice that come in different colors :) by the way, the gaming mice are a little more expensive than what you want to pay for a mouse, maybe? a descent cheap mouse is gonna run you around 30-50$

and I agree sony is overpriced, samsung is the best quality for the money, and if you get it from sears, you can buy a really nice protection agreement from them, but im not sure if all sears have the same protection agreement.

The first thing im purchasing the same time as my lappy is my secure backpack (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834997073)
and a wireless printer, both from newegg (since my printer decided to break RIGHT when school started lol) then i'm just gonna run out to best buy for that $30 mouse, comes in like 7 different colors and its pretty comfortable.

Hey Dislexi,
Thanks for mentioning Sears by the way as I'm in the market for a new TV by January. Department stores like Sears usually have the highest prices of anyone, that's why I didn't bother considering them, but most new TVs really only have a 90-day warranty on them, which I find very disturbing. My parents have purchased their appliances from Sears though for the extended service plans. I usually never buy an extended warranty as I feel they are ripoffs, but with the new TVs, I might want to reconsider. If I can cut a good deal with Sears (lower price match would do it) I may get my TV from them.

Let me know how that wireless printer works out when you get it. It may be something else I want to consider.:)

I might be getting a Sony Alpha digital Camera for my photography class that comes with an external zoom lens so I'm thinking i'll skip on the TV for now since the camera is around $700. I guess I'd call it a priority over the TV. I'll buy the TV by next summer probably.

Camera : sony alpha (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/539543-REG/Sony_DSLRA200W_Alpha_DSLR_A200_SLR_Digital.html)

I'm wondering why I'm not getting any updates on my laptop yet. I think it should have been to at least phase 4 by now. I know Phase 3 is the skinning so I skip over that. Maybe still be testing or something

For $700 you can get a nice Canon with the same set up and it will blow the Sony away. Canon and Nikon are your superior digital SLRs, hands down. Sony is not a camera manufacture by trade. Canon is known for their cameras (they make printers and copiers as well, but their quality is not compromised in the cameras for it). Nikon only makes cameras of course. Canon and Nikon are equally high quality with the only difference being that Canon support is better than Nikon's.
If you go with a Canon you'll have a wider choice of lenses and such for future should you decide to get more lenses. Also, the support on Canons is excellent. Go for a Canon Rebel XSi or XTi. Those are great entry-level professional cameras. I have an XTi myself and purchased it after talking to six Pros who make a living doing photography. They recommended it to me after showing me that they use Nikon as their main rig, but all of them had Canons as their secondary rig. I opted to listen to them and get the Canon, best camera I have ever owned. (I can only use SLRs as I was trained on one when I was in Photography back in the film days).

As for where your lappy might be, give it about a couple more days as Justin and crew are very busy trying to get everything out to everyone after all the vendor delays they have had to deal with and tons of orders and such. Don't worry, your lappy is coming.

When you get down to it Nikons and Canons are neck and neck as far as quality and abilities. It's impossible to go wrong with either one. The only real difference is the customer support with Canon being better in that department. Other than that, you don't get much better than Canon and Nikon. Of course, in the end it's the user that makes the difference in the results, but having a nice rig such as one of these two helps a lot.

Yes, XoticPc is in Lincoln Nebraska, but you can have your lappy shipped from CA if you need it faster and your not having any graphics done. Otherwise, the factory ships your lappy to XoticPC for skinning and graphics and further testing or if you just want to avoid paying the bad ol taxes. (In my case, I did both skinning and even if I didn't have the skinning I wanted to avoid the taxes). I live in CA.

Otherwise, the factory ships your lappy to XoticPC for skinning and graphics and further testing or if you just want to avoid paying the bad ol taxes. (In my case, I did both skinning and even if I didn't have the skinning I wanted to avoid the taxes). I live in CA.

I kind of figured that was the case. I didn't get skinning so I assume that its coming straight from Sager in CA. I live in WV Virginia so coming from CA takes awhile. The estimated delivery date is the 16 which is this Tue. I'm very much anticipating my laptop because right now I'm dead without a computer. I really should have ordered it before I got to school. But anyways I guess all I can do is wait.

I'll post some pics up when I get it.

Yay! my lappie arrived on time and in perfect condition. I'm really impressed with this monster. It is awesome. I can't even believe i have it.

I do have a question. I was trying to download photshop CS3 onto my laptop here and after waiting for it to load it shows an error at the end of installation and it was not able to download all components. It downloads fine on my old computer desktop and my friends computer. I'm just wondering whats blocking it from fully downloading on my computer. could it be my firewall or something? I read something about CS3 not being compatible with 64bit windows vista.

I had that same problem... can't remeber what I did, but googling the problem did the trick. I believe it was a x64 problem.

Yeah, I tried googling the problem. I believe it is a windows 64x problem from what I have read. I read that you are supposed to run CS3cleanscript and do a couple other things to fix it. I'm wondering if that would screw up my OS if I did that. I do have a recovery disk though so I could reformat if I had to. I might call sager technical support to see what they say about that.
