View Full Version : ASUS - No Stickers?

This probably sounds weird, but is it possible to get an Asus with no stickers affixed anywhere except the bottom?
Regardless if going with a custom finish or not, I'd much prefer no stickers ruining the sleek, pristine look and feel of a brand-new rig.
Watching an owner's video of a brand-new Asus G70S-A1 (http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=269794) shows the textured wrist-rest area covered with a circus of Intel, nVidia, Windows, Dolby and Asus stickers. With the unique textured surface on this model, once the stickers are applied, it may be impossible to completely remove all evidence of them without significantly marring its appearance.
Despite a wide variety of methods and being as gentle as possible, I've never been able to completely remove all evidence of these advertising nuisances from any brand of laptop.
The pending Asus purchase will be the most expensive laptop for me to date, between $3,000 to $4,000 and possibly with a custom finish. With XoticPC's reputation for stellar service, it's hoped this special request, silly as it sounds, can be accommodated. If it can, kindly let me know what I should do during the order process to make it happen.
Thanks oodles,

I can certainly understand the appeal of the stickers; especially when they represent an engine under the hood that's built with blazing-fast, bleeding-edge technology.
I guess this eccentric preference was inherited from my dad, who would not allow a dealership to put their name on his shiny new car, not only for aesthetic reasons, but also because he didn't feel the need to be a permanent roving advertisement for them.
Also, every time our family went to the theme park Six Flags, he'd put a note on the car to stop them from slapping their bumper sticker on it while we were inside the park. They've since stopped that irritating policy, but years ago they'd plaster bumper stickers on each and every car in the parking lot. Again, this was primarily a matter of asthetics for a guy who, now in his 70s, still hand-washes his car every Sunday.
Thanks much,

Stickers are a pain in the rear with all Laptops. Every time you tear them off you get that lightly pasty layer that's always there, and very sticky and annoying on your wrists.
Yeah, never liked stickers. I always found as a Suggestion when you rip them off, that rubbing alchohol works great for getting rid of evidence of the stickers, but that's about all I can say.
Wow, Six Flags sounds like they fail right there, haha. That's pretty funny, about slapping on stickers on every car.. Wow.

Bill, my brother in sticker hell, you nailed the problem perfectly.
If, and that's a big IF, you can get the paper/foil stuff off, then you're left with a layer of adhesive so insidious, so evil, so determined to never ever budge, that nothing short of a nuclear blast will remove it.
Because my apartment lease forbids use of uranium rods or nuclear silos on the property (risk losing my deposit), the next best thing is a chainsaw. Though a gas-powered tree-chopper guarantees 100% success with sticker removal, I still have a wee bit of trouble restoring the pristine factory appearance afterwards.
Seriously, though, rubbing alcohol does indeed help remove adhesive on rock-hard, sealed, smooth surfaces. I've also tried friction with rubber erasers and tried using tape as a sort of velcro to pick up the adhesive.
My only hesitation with using any of those on the Asus G70S is because the wrist rest appears to be a matte-finish, pebbled surface that could be sensitive to friction or chemicals.
With Dell, I'm just a dollar sign in a massive assembly line of customers. With Xotic, there appear to be actual humans with a genuine pulse trying to provide customized service and products. If there's even a remote chance of getting a lappy without stickers, it'll be here with Xotic.
Thanks much,

Look for something called Goo-gone. Its an orange based product that generally will remove all kinds of nasty stuff. I even use the stuff to clean my grill as its non toxic!
Another option is a little bit of WD-40 on a Qtip. You may want to test in an inconspicuous spot to be sure it doesnt mess up your finish.

Awesome tip, Kaldor.
I haven't heard of Goo-Gone and, just going by the name, it sounds like exactly what I need.
There is most definitely a goo problem with stickers and I most definitely want it gone. :o)
Thanks much,

Dont waste money on goo-gone a much easier solution that is easy to cleanup and even if you screw up wont do damage is....
Rubbing alcohol, pour it on the glue residue and rub a little and the glue should come off/dissolve. And if you use to much and it spills under your keyboard it shouldnt do damage because it evaporates so fast. Dont try this on purpose its just a little tip!
Rubbing alcohol wont do any damge to the surface besides kill bacteria and any "living substance" that managed to get on your laptop:laugh: JK!

Agree, Jagg, that rubbing alcohol will promptly dispatch all pesky laptop cooties back from whence they came.
I just need to be cautious with it around anything that's not rock-hard, sealed plastic. If the pebbly, textured wrist-rest area on the G70SA is in any way rubbery or soft, alcohol could easily damage the surface.
Am hoping all that hassle and risk won't be necessary, that the cases don't come from the Asus factory with stickers already on them, and that the seller can refrain from going sticker-crazy during assembly.
Thanks much!

I just realized what part you were talking about and you should be completely fine. That surface looks pebbled but it is actually "carbon fiber" finish with most likely a polyurethane finish on top of it for a clear coat to keep it covered. You should be fine, carbon fiber is durable and if its got poly over the top its invincible.

GooGone is freaking ridiculous stuff.
Heck, when I was working with my dad on our cars, when we got grease on our hands we would use that stuff in conjunction with soap and water to get it all off.
