Thread: NP9262 and GeForce GTX 280M

Default NP9262 and GeForce GTX 280M

This is a simple question; can you put a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M in a NP9262? I can see no reason why, but can't find any answers on the forums.

There are several things to look at when upgrading laptops GPUs. Unfortunately, Im not too versed on the hardware compatibility of the NP 9262, however, I can give you some general insight.

    1) If you have the 8800mGTX, one thing you need to look at is TDP. The 8800mGTX has a TDP of 65W ( right? ) as compared to the GTX 280m which has a TDP of 75W. If the NP9262 can not support that TDP, then it will not support the GPU.

    2) Again assuming you use the 8800mGTX, you also need it to support the same ( or larger I believe ) MXM compatibility. The GTX 280m is an MXM 3 type B card, which means its quite large, though I would expect the 8800mGTX to be as well. Im not sure the slot of your laptop nor an 8800mGTX, so one of the Justins or Joseph would be better at assisting you in this aspect.

    3) Last aspect is power budget, which you would also need to talk to a rep about, as I know the power budget for neither card, though I would imagine that the GTX 280m would need more than the 8800mGTX due to more hardware.

Take a look at this, link. The NP9262 is the Clevo D901c correct? Then it says yes.

Thank for the great replies so far. It would be nice if 1 of the clones uh... I mean Justin's would give me a direct answer.

So this is what I am thinking NasGhost, that the mother board for the NP9262 can handle dual GPU's so I would think that one GTX280m is fine, "I think". second there is a lot of room in this laptop, and I don't think the new Clevo frame is that much bigger then the NP9262 if at all actually. I just think the motherboard is a new one. I would really appreciate it if Justin or Justin or Justin or Justin or any other clone could answer this question.

and thanks powerpack for the link, although at the time of the typing this message I have yet to look at it.

Well I just looked at the link and the answer is yes. Thank you powerpack I knew I bought this laptop for a good reason.

Don't tell anyone, but sometimes I cry at how beautiful this laptop is.

I cry myself on occasion. No shame here. Best of luck. What will be hard is buying at a good price I think?
